It does have an internal coil. All the drawings are showing an external coil and different color codes so we are still stymied. There are three wires coming out of the distributor, brown, black & red. These go to a connector block under the built in coil. There are 5 terminals under the connector block. We are trying to figure out what goes where? We think black out of distributor goes to ground, not sure about rest. Couldn't find any good diagrams at mallory or google that match our distributor/coil combo. Wish I could find the harness we lost.
We have the following markings on the cap:
+ which we think goes to ignition hot +
- goes to ground on block
GRD black from distributor
COIL brown from distributor
BATT red from distributor.
Not sure if this is wired right, tried other set ups, they didn't work either.

Grounds are testing OK. Power is coming into +
No spark to plug as we crank it.
Maybe distributor is faulty?

Does it have an internal coil... You may need an external coil.... and resistor... Now you know all I know..... almost nothing...

Rotor, coil, distributor came as a boxed set so the should be matched. Brand New. You feel our pain?

Yea!!!!
We got spark.
Whodathunk it, the Mallory distributor terminal marked - (minus) is actually the input for the tachometer!!! We had it grounded and that was killing the spark. I talked to 3 people at Mallory before I got one that understood the wiring.

Justin will be back with his timing light on Sunday, maybe we can get it running then. If we do, video will follow.

Happy New Year everyone.

I'll bet that is a relief.... Good news...... Now, can you make a video of it running..... and the total fit up.... that was quite a job.... Dave

Hurrah!

It is running! Sounds great.

Had to shut it down though because of a coolant leak on a water pump fitting and a gas leak on the carburetor accelerator pump. Have to wait for parts and will try to get it running to video tape this week.
