1966 MF135 refurbish question

My friend it refurbishing a 1966? MF135 Z-145A Gas tractor. I think it is a continental engine... He said the block was cracked and couldn't find another. He found one kit, but after all was said and done it would have cost over 1500 to complete. Was this a popular tractor and do you think it would be worth looking to find a "parts tractor"? It was his grandfathers and he really would like to restore it. Any insight would be great!

What was all included in that $1500?

MF135 are great little tractors, obviously the diesel is preffered but they are worth restoring.

I'll have to ask him what it included. He is very excited to start the work and I think he should be getting the tractor from his brother this month. I'll get more info.

Ok, I have a little better info now. He said that it was more like $1900, and that would have given him a rebuilt motor. He also found a refurb block that went for 800.
Found out later that the $1900 was for another model, not the MF135. I think it was for a MF130.
Again, any insight would be appreciated!

Based in your last post I woudl go with a refurbished engine for $800 over a complete rebuild for $1900. That is if the refurbished engine is done by a company that warranties their work.

Well that block is probably just that, a block and not a "complete motor." But $1900 for a motor job isn't bad. I usually quote $1800-$2000 for a gas job and $2000-$2500 for a diesel job.
