I am still looking but have narrowed it down to 1994-1996, mainly due to the "newer" style a/c. I am a little concerned about part availability, but in doing some research there seems to be a following of these trucks and I have found several places that sell all types of parts. I will keep everyone posted, hopefully I land a good one.

Keep your eyes out for an f250 too, if that's something you want. They only came in 2wd with the 300 and a five speed, at least in that era, so you won't find a 4x4, but I'm very pleased with mine. Good mileage, plenty of pull with the granny low and 4.10 rear end, and I can legitimately put 4,000 lbs in the bed before I approach my GVWR.

Parts for the 94-96 are no problem to get. There are several parts suppliers on the net that cover these trucks.
One reason for the popularity is Ford redesigned the F150 for 97 and beyond and that body was not appealing to many, although ford sold many of the later models. Personally I'm draw to the boxier design, I think I can load more as I believe it's a little wider that the 97s.

Expect a steering rebuild. I borrowed my buddies 94 like the above and couldn't understand why i couldn't keep it between the lines on the road until i realized the steering wheel needed 15 deg of input before the truck would start to notice.

FYI it would seam the last year for manual trans in an F150 was 08 ish with 4.2 V6 4x2 5speed. If you want the V8 you have to back up to 2003. Internets say 2010 was the last year for a stickshift in a F250 but it also says they are rare as hens teeth so there's that.

Thanks for the info. I looked at one today, a 95 with 86k miles. White/grey interior, short bed 4x4. He is asking 6k. The truck is extremely clean, one owner. Drove great. He works for the local co-op and doesn't drive much. The truck does not have a hitch or ball on bumper, actually a good sign. Negatives- a/c may need replacing, it gets cool not cold. The cloth bench is torn but has a seat cover. It also needs tires. Thinking of offering 5k and see what happens.

Sounds like you should buy it. The seat is a easy fix. After Market has oem style factory correct covers. No hitch says it's not been used and abused. Tires? Now you can get what you want.

A co-worker had a '95 F-150, supercab, 300 six, 5 sp manual, very straight truck. He traded it in for a new F-150 when they had the "cash for clunkers" program. The '95 was destroyed. Would have been a great truck for someone else. I rode in it several times, nothing wrong with it.

I offered him 5k yesterday evening. I hope he accepts, the truck is 10 minutes from my house. Most others are anywhere from 2 hours to 500 miles. The a/c has a small leak, I brought a can of freon with me yesterday, put it in and it cooled off fine, blowing 48-50 degrees from the vents. Another thing I noticed is the truck has new u-joints and has been serviced since new by the local mechanic who I know well. Gave him a call and he is pulling the records this morning and faxing over. He does recall the truck, does not recall any major repairs to it. I drove it for about 10 miles again yesterday, drives straight, no abnormal wear on the tires (Firestone A/T) to show misalignment. One thing that truly amazed me was he still has the owner's manual and window sticker. The vinyl floor looks brand new, I asked his secret- he wet it down and scrubbed it with a tire brush and Dawn once a month. I found some replacement seats for it. It has a straight bench now, I would like the split with the console in the middle. The only wreck it has been in was 5 years ago, he was rear ended and replaced the bumper. Now, to make you guys drool, he has a 2000 F250 4x4 with the 7.3 that he does his towing with. It has 29k miles and is not for sale-ever. This truck is pristine- no scratches, tears, dents- sits under his carport and he drives it occasionally to "blow the dust off". He paid cash for it new, says he started saving in 1995 right after he bought the F150 new with cash. Keep in mind, he lives a very simple life, works at the local co-op for over 20 years, bachelor, just one of those guys that kind of "gets it" if you know what I mean. I have seen the F150 at the co-op, never knew it was his until I asked about it. Even if the deal does not go through, made a good friendship.

Is that a/c system R12 or R134a?
