Crap, It is still 3.00 gas and 3.50 diesel here today. But no, there is not price fixing going on! :(
I feel for you guy's up there in Idaho. You are getting it handed to you at the pumps. I hope at least the spuds are cheap as ****.

I travel I-77 quite regurlaly and Wytheville, VA was always the cheapest place to get fuel along the way to FLA. It was 20 or 30 cents cheaper than here in Ohio. That's what is perplexing me, how can the prices change so much regionally? We have just about the cheapest fuel in the country and we used to be right up there with prices throughout FL.

No, I can't...
Here in this part of Ohio, prices are down to $2.09 in one area, and still at $2.43 only 15 miles away. The area that currently has the higher prices had been traditionally a few cents a gallon lower in the past. Looks like they're trying to make a little bit extra while they can.

Unless they raise and then lower the taxes four or five times a year I'd attribute these price fluctuations to some other type of chicanery.

More power to them. That's how business works. If people don't want to pay those prices, they will buy their gas down the street.

No one is forced to go to those higher priced stations. If people go elsewhere, they may lower their prices.

I don't hear much complaining that the local hardware store charges more than Home Depot. In fact, I hear the opposite -- people complaining that Home Depot is too cheap, putting the poor hardware store out of business. I guess some people just love to complain, for they take positions on both sides of the argument.

I was told sometimes price drops faster than they sell the gas. So if you have a tank full of last weeks high priced gas and the station down the street gets a load of this weeks cheaper gas you can't lower your price to match his without taking a loss. Well cheaper gas sells faster so you are stuck with the higher gas until enough fools buy you empty.
Oh by the way, Temp: 72 Gas: 2.52 Milk: ?

1. trickery or deception by quibbling or sophistry
2. a quibble or subterfuge used to trick, deceive, or evade.

MadReferee has posted multiple times how retailers actually set their prices but I like the chicanery explanation better.
