2 cyl diesels???????

good morning,
tried to find a thread on this subject, however, seems to be none. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
anyone using this type engine.....looked at a yanmar yesterday, runs pretty smooth /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
let me know, any feedback. etc.

My John Deere 650 was a 2 cylinder Yanmar diesel. Ran great with no problems, did not notice any excess vibration. Some of the Kubotas (BX1500) use a large counterweight to offset some of the vibration in this small engine. I think the difference is the Yanmar was a much heavier built motor.

I have a Yanmar 1500D with a 2 cyl diesel. Runs great and really rugged. Go to the Yanma Board this site. Many of the Yanmar greys are 2 cyl diesels

Yanmar makes a one-cyl diesel as well. Smooth? Not as smooth as a two, which is not as smooth as a 3, etc. Doubt there would be a market if they were 'not smooth'. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My experience has been that its only evident at lower RPM's, and I don't know too many people who use their tractors at idle.

There are lots of two cyl. diesels out there. The larger two wheel tractors (14 hp) use them. Other brand names include Deutz, Hatz, Lombardi, etc.

I have read on many occasions that a two cylinder actually develops more torque than a 3. They tend to be a little louder than 3 and 4 cylinder engines, but not a problem.
You will find that many twos are older tractors, such as the YM2000 or any other YMXX00 model. 00, 01,02,10,20 and FXX are older to newer.
Don't be too concerned about the "hammering" sound in the Yanmar two cylinder, it's normal. You need to read as much as possible in the Yanmar forum if you're considering Yanmar. There are some gray market Yanmars that are easier to find parts for than others, and you need to know which they are. John

My old Ford 1700 is a two cylinder diesel made by Shiabura.

Its been a pretty solid unit for me...

Yanmar comes to mind... though there are others. Yanmars with the 2cyl exhibit the 'yammer hammer' sound.. which is kinda close to the pop-pop of a big old JD 2cyl gas job.

A couple years ago, I had some crushed granite delivered to topcoat my circle drive, between loads, I was on my Ford spreading the stuff.

Once the last load was dumped, I idled down and got off to pay for the material... the truck driver was an older guy who smiled at the sound of my old Ford at low idle... he too said it brought to mind the old "Poppin' Johnnies" of his youth... but I bet mine is easier to start! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
