Hi, noob here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm interested in the Yanmars after researching other tractor prices. I "think" I need something in the 20-30hp range. I have 5 acres that need mowed (finish). I also plan a lot of landscaping, large garden, etc so I'm interested in FEL, box scrape, etc. What are the basic differences between the 2010D, 2020D, 2310D, 2420D? Seems what makes the 2*20 series heavier than the 2*10 series? I read in another post "The 20's and 02's have wet brakes and a spin on hydraulic filter, the 01's and 10's do not. The 01's and 02's are not power-shift, whgereas the 10's and 20's are power-shift.". On other forums people want the wet brakes and wouldn't a spin on hydraulic filter be good for longevity? What are wet brakes? Any difference between the abilities of the 2cyl vs 3cyl? Any difference between the abilities of the hydraulic systems on these models?

Thanks and I've learned a lot from this forum so far!!!

The **20 models are heavier because they have more metal in them, seems to be larger trams and diff housing. Wet brakes run in the trnasmission oil. Seem to last longer and do not squeel. The heavier tractor will pull ground engaging tools better, but with 4wd the difference is not as great as with the 2wd. Power shift nice it lets you change tractor speed whthout increasing rpm or stopping to change gears. No speed shifts here. Changing gears on a non syncro trans can lunch the trans and or pto. The F and F* models are more expensive but they are not as old as the Ym models. The 2cylinder is usually in a older model tractor (70's vs 80' or later) Both are very good engines. The 2 cyl has more tork per hp than the 3 cyl and I think it runs quieter than the 3cyl at working rpm. With that much finish mowing I would think that a 6 ft or 7ft mower would be the ticket and that will require 25 to 30 pto hp. Go visit some tractors before you buy if posssible. i have a YM2020D and I run a 6' finish mower. It does work the tractor hard in tall grass but with the power shift I just down shift and go right on. I have hilly land and the 4wd makes all the difference in the feeling of stability of the tractor. Being able to back up a hill without spinning (not possible with 2wd unless the tractor is much larger ) is a great help. Hope this is some help to you. For the bucks you cannot get a better tractor , heck maby not even for any amount of bucks.

Wouldn't the hydraulic filters on the **20 models be beneficial to keep the system clean and operating correctly? Or is the screen on the **10 models fine? What about brakes? How often do brakes need serviced?

Are there common things with these older tractors that everyone has to service when they first get one?

Thanks for the great information!
