If you can disassemble and clean a Ruger Mark 2 or 3...NASA has a job waiting for you. :D

That is too funny and very true. I would sooner split a tractor then do a total take down on a mark 2 or 3.

I have the LCP and am quite pleased with it. I added the Crimson Trace red laser sight also. It attaches to the front of the trigger guard. I also own Taurus products which I have had no trouble with.

I have seen too many videos of the little gun having problems. I will probably go with the Ruger.

And I am going to take down the Mk. II tomorrow and give it a thourough cleaning. Getting it back together is what worries me!

No worries...just bring a sleeping bag, plenty of alcohol, and bible and you will be set to go!

I should sell T Shirts that say: "I successfully took apart and cleaned my Ruger Mark 3 pistol".

Aw come on guys, taking down a MkII or MKIII is not that big of a deal. Sure it is more difficult than a 1911, but obviously none of you have taken down or put back together a Colt Woodsman. Now that is a challenge, especially your first time. Here is a retrofit that will make your MkII or MkIII a piece of cake.. I don't have one, because I am good at putting together that MkII of mine, but some of you might like it:)

I remember years ago when cheap motorcycle helmets were really common. Often seen signs sated, "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet." I'm not familiar personally with either gun, but money is the last thing I think of when buying something on which my life may someday depend.

My experience with the Taurus brand has been good, it should be noted there was a recall on the early Ruger LCP, so a past problem with either manufacturer is often meaningless.

For the price difference in the subject pistol and a better one, I would spend the extra dollars. Especially on something like a firearm that I don't intend to get rid off any time soon. Personally I would be looking at a Sig or S&W.

I guess all brands have their hiccups but a guy at work had a problem with a Taurus and what it took to get it fixed was not encouraging. It failed right out of the box. When he was looking for a rifle I told him to get a DCM M1 but he ended up with a cheap SKS that failed on round 99. I ask him from time to time how ol' 99 is doing.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

I have a Taurus .357 revolver that I have had for over 20 years, no troubles. Of course it's a revolver, S&W clone at that so not much to go wrong with it. Shoots great, I get compliments on it all the time at the range. For an auto, yes I would probably pay a little more. I carry a Glock 27, I really just don't get that 'feel' when I see a Taurus or other less expensive auto pistol. Many people seem to have had a lot of good experience with the Kel-Tecs.

I have a Taurus 605 revolver that I sometimes carry. Good, reliable gun. However, it took 2 factory replacements before I got a reliable one!

Taking them apart is not the issue. Getting them back together is the issue :) "How do I get my Mk II back together?" has to be the most frequent question in rec.guns
