2013 Hay Season

   / 2013 Hay Season #251
My 64pto HP got a work out in the thick stuff and was just running in 4low taking my time instead of trying to run flat out,not worth taking chance of something going south. That 85u probably don't even know its back there...

Not really but I hate unclog a baker. Getting too old for that. I haven't clog this baler yet, but the old one I did several times.

So neighbor called and asked if would bale his meadow,I nicely turned him down, feel kinda bad now. I stopped and was BSIng with him and the guy he usually has do it wonts a 2 bale an acre minimum, that's the whole reason I bought mine own equipment. When I bought mine,I said would only do my own but even if I charge him a min. 800 to do the 20acres would come out 600. I feel like I should help him..

I got into the same thing with a neighbor 3 years ago, during the worst of our drought. I've known him my whole life, graduated high school with him. Same kind of situation. The guy that had been baling for him said there wasn't enough hay to mess with. I told him that I would cut for $10/acre and rake and bale for $15/roll. (4x5) I wasn't going to make much profit at that, but it would cover my expenses. He was tickled to death. Fast forward to about a month ago, and he has his wife to call me and tell me that they found someone to do it cheaper.

I don't regret helping a neighbor out, and I would probably do again. Just not this guy. I'm done there.

Thats not even right Joey, hope things dont work out for him with the new balers:D. I hate telling him no but it would do good to make20rolls,im going to guess more around 15. If he can hold off til season is ending and just let it go,we do have some rain chances, instead of wonting it done now,it may make better. Thats what im doing waiting it out til last minute, tax purpose have to cut one field one more time, leaser dont allow me to run cattle.

Yep, if you can make it work while helping out a neighbor, that's great. You just can't let them dictate your schedule. You bought the equipment to take care of your hay first and foremost.

My new hay weapon. Mounted a spear on my ripper tooth on the boom of my excavator, much better for manuverability. Works great for reaching up to unload double stacked bales from the trailer as well as placing them on the wrapper. Sorry for the dark pic, we've finally had hay weather and been wrapping late into the night.

I had one cutting in June and have not been able to cut since...it has rained either every day or every other day...WE have not had 3 consecutive days without rain since...We should have had 3 cuttings at least...If it would stop raining and we had 5 days..we might could get 2 more cuttings but the window is closing and the rain is forecast to continue...We have had decades of drought and now this...This is what they mean when they say...When it rains it Pours ...and pours ...and pours...etc. :confused3:
