2013 Tundra vs 2013 Ford

Not trying to turn this thread into a Toyota vs Ford but if the Tundra is so great why doesn't it outsell the F-150?

Hard to say.

Brand loyalty? Stereotypes that they arent a "true" working truck? Not as long a history? Not "American" in buyers eyes? It could be a number of things.

Now if Toyota was smart they'd drop a 4l Hino diesel engine in the Tundra or even better a larger engine in a 3/4 ton "Tundra"

On the frame, I know a mechanic locally who carries around a 125ish gallon fuel tank in the back, along with a hundred gallons or so of hyd fluid. Plus a loaded toolbox all the time in the back of his couple year old Tundra. All over REAL bumpy woods roads. If anyone was going to break a frame it would be him!, but nope, not yet. He should really be running a 1ton.

I doubt the frames will fail but I have seen some beds rub the back of the cab from the twist.

I am a F150 fan, hqd 6 of them and if buying today it would be a EcoBoost, but its not always about sales numbers. In 09 I bought a Nissan Titan. I drove a Tundra but the rear frame section concerned me since I tow more than 5000 miles per year. The F150 I was board with. The Dodge had a harsh ride and the and the Hemi just is not a good truck motor in my eyes. The GM felt cheap and underpowered with fit and finish being sub par.

So that got me back to the Titan. I did hours of research. Nissan stated in 2003 when they released they stated they only had capacity to build 2000 a month. It was rumored that Dodge would build the Titan for additional capacity but that fell through with the bailout.

I just wonder what will happen when the Cummins is dropped in it. I hope Nissan builds themselves to keep the quality at a high level.

I know it does not happen everyday but this past weekend we were going to the River for the Cincinnati EBN fireworks. I was driving next to a 3/4 ton Dodge pulling a 25' 7500# boat. I was amazed to watch the cab/bed area when he hit bumps like those going from pavement to a bridge. The gap would go from 2" to less than 3/4". This was a nice late model truck that was maybe 3 years old.

I would not be so sure my friend. I have bought many trucks over the years and hope to be around to buy many more. All of them have been Ford and no Toyota (GM or Dodge) will ever change that.

Nothing wrong with a Toyota, if that's what you like but you will be very wrong to think they impress everyone.
Read my post again friend. If you don't get the tongue in cheek message I can't help you. Look at the stats. They don't even come close. Not knocking Toyota, but my point is the market says Ford rules followed closely by GM. And if they were a fraction as bad as some of these posters relate, there are a lot of dumb people in the world.

Can people have a bad experience with a Ford? Sure. Just like they can have a bad experience with a Toyota. I don't think ANYONE today builds a bad product.

Can you spec a truck improperly for its intended use? Sure, but it doesn't mean the truck was bad.

Just like tractor loader numbers I take all the tests with a gain of salt. IMO any one of the 5 brands out there will pull anything I need to tow without issues. I just like that I have a brand new frame thanks to Toyota replacing the Dana made frames.

First fill up- 17.2 mpg. We topped off the other day and were at 19, but my wife did the math. :). I can live with 17. Not near as bad as I thought. Was only getting 16mpg in my Silverado.
