2013 Tundra vs 2013 Ford

Here are some pics. One thing I really like is how the trailer hitch mounts. Unfortunately I could not get a good pic of it. We hit 100 miles right in front of a gas station today getting lunch and decided to fill up. Took 5.2 gallons, 80% highway driving, just over 19 mpg.

Nice truck! $10 says it will last longer than a Ford!

Then that's a Bet!

I have a 16 year old Ford in my drive now still going strong. They make a good truck. Now, if it outlasts the Tundra, I will be rather dismayed!! As I said before, the standard equipment was the major deciding factor for us.

I bought a Rav4 a couple of months ago and so far I've been really impressed with it. After reading the manual I found out there are features that the dealer can change with software. Simple things like you can turn off the seatbelt alarm (it always annoys me when I have something on the passenger's seat and I have to connect the seatbelt to silence the alarm. I'm not sure what options are available for the Tundra but you can buy the cable for under $30 on ebay with the software and with a laptop you can change them as you like.

The Tundra looks nice.

Congrats DF - nice looking truck. I was down to the same two choices back in '10. I was coming from a '99 Toyota Tacoma, but wanted to go full size for my next truck. Really liked the Tundra, but back in 2010, due to the soft economy, the dealers around here had mostly stripped down work trucks or a few Limited's with more bells and whistles than I wanted to pay for. Did find one with the options close to what I wanted but the dealer wouldn't move on the price very much.

Ended up with a Ford F150 XLT 5.4ltr with a fair amount of options, including the integrated brake controller which I really like (wasn't on my must have list at the time, but wouldn't get a truck without it now). I log every gallon of gas that goes in the tank and have averaged mid 17s mpg since day 1, and that includes highway, city, around town, towing, hauling - everything. I'm pretty happy with the mpg for what it is (3.55 rear end and 6spd tranny). Came in close to $4K less than the Tundra so I couldn't pass on it. I've been very happy with it but bought the factory extended warranty just in case (this being my first new domestic vehicle). Hopefully just a fluke, but a seal in the steering rack failed a month ago and power steering fluid was leaking into the tie-rod boot. They put in a new steering rack and tie rod under the extended warranty. Somehow, I doubt I'd have anything like that so soon in the Toyota. Time will tell. Anyway, good luck with it.

Deerefan, in our family we don't play many favorites, so have never had a "favorite" brand. I have owned many trucks over the last 40 years or so and many have been Fords. I've always gotten a good one, though I never bought a new truck. A few years ago, my son was looking for a truck. It had be tough, powerful, and carry a family of 5. Spent a lot of time checking everyone out, and listening to the "ol' man". He bought a new 2009 Tundra extended 4dr 2wd with the 5.7. He still drives that truck every day and loves it. Here is the important part. He uses that thing like a truck, tractor, off road, on etc. He beats on it mercilessly! It don't look pretty anymore but is an absolutely solid vehicle. He is a stickler about the maintenance though. He expects to buy a new one sometime in the next 5 years or so, so the wife will have something pretty to drive. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Tundra.

Thanks. We feel really good about our decision. I appreciate everyone's input and for keeping things civil. These truck threads can get chippy at times!! I will update from time to time so the next person will have some facts to go on.
