I'm new to haying. So if the weather man is saying rain every other day, do I just keep waiting?

Just depends on how big gambling man as to when to go for it. I been burned on 20% before but if you wait until 0 I wouldn't ever get done with all mine. I bought a Tedder last year for when I get burned and to hurry it up so I don't.
Welcome to the hay life, have fun...

Thanks foreman. Normally by now its 85-90 degrees and very dry. I have seen others cut Monday morning and bail Tuesday evening. It's cooler and more humid right now. My biggest problem is, I still work and there is a lot of forced overtime. I can hardly wait until I can quote Johnny Paycheck!!

Gotta make sure it is dry or it will be no good and can burn your barn down.

Are you talking alfalfa? Are they tedding it to get it to dry that fast? I know when I was younger we would knock alfalfa and three days later stack it - no tedding or raking - not even crimping it. 19.5' swath laid in a nice windrow and it would dry in that three days. As i think it through I am betting you can just crimp and then rake it together and still bale it in two days.

I laid enough down today to make about 5 bales get everything dialed in. I had take monitor out Kubota will install it in NH tomorrow, give me time make sure everything works on NH and time to fix it before lay the good stuff down. I go back to work tomorrow on my 10 days so that leaves my dad to cut Saturday and me to bale when get off in the evenings. Will see how things go this year starting Wednesday.

Yes it is alfalfa, and kind of thin. I was very busy at work when i should have been over seeding the whole thing. Keep in mind here in Utah the relative humidity is very low. (usually) So it drys fast.
Thanks Tom; I will make sure it's dry. Don't want to create any more work by building a new hay barn!
Creamer I can't afford to take my wife shopping to much. She has no problem spending my money - - - and she'll tell you that.

Are you making cow or horse hay? Is it for yourself or to sell?
If its cow or horse hay for yourself, you can be more of a gambling man. If its horse hay for sale, usually the buyer is very picky.
What we do is bale cow hay in late spring for our self and horse hay later in the season for sale.
Couple years ago we had cut hay get rained on for a week straight. The cows ate it up the next winter but we also put out a supplemental molasses tub.
