Etex, sorry to hear about the accident, glad to hear you'll be OK.

I cut 5 acres with my new to me 9' pull behind a few days ago, worked great. I did replace all the guards and every knife that was worn at all, along with changing the gear oil. I have never seen gear oil that looked as bad as what came out of that gear box. Looked like a 50/50 mix oil/water. It's all good now though. I plan to bail tonight when I get home with my new to me baler. I adjusted and oiled the chains, greased all the jerks and changed the lube oil in both gear boxes. Hope it works as good as the swather.

Are you making cow or horse hay? Is it for yourself or to sell?
If its cow or horse hay for yourself, you can be more of a gambling man. If its horse hay for sale, usually the buyer is very picky.
What we do is bale cow hay in late spring for our self and horse hay later in the season for sale.
Couple years ago we had cut hay get rained on for a week straight. The cows ate it up the next winter but we also put out a supplemental molasses tub.

The hay is for cows/myself, but I still want it to be good enough to sell.

It's been about a week without rain so I'm planning on cutting hay tomorrow. Forecast is for lower to mid 90's for next several days. I'll cut tomorrow, use the tedder for two days and should be able to bale Monday. Grass is very thick coastal Bermuda.

Hay season has finally begun in East Texas. Saw the first Hay rig(Truck, Trailer, Tractor, and Cutter) hauling between fields yesterday afternoon. Hope we're in for a good Hay season, and all of you be careful out there.

Baled 36 acres yesterday evening. I'm very happy with 2 5x6 bales an acre considering no fertilizer.

Back in the field last night, much better results. Only plugged up the mower a couple of times and only tripped the safety once. I believe it was because the grass was a bit damp the prior night. Because the mower is so old I did tighten the safety release a bit more. Should be able to get the last 5 acres tonight. Hopefully rake tomorrow and bale Sunday.

Only baled a few bales. The alfalfa was still too wet. Maybe tonight, I hope I can get it done because the weather is sure looking like rain. I will say the baler worked great for the few bales it did.

Raked and baled mine today. I could have done it last evening but the guy doing my baling was not able to and it wasn't going to rain anyway. this made sure it was dry. I would estimate it about half tall fescue with the remaining being a mix of brome grass and timothy. It is really nice hay.

Also this was the first time I used the old dump rake from when I was a kid. It worked great. I had a couple of spectators who had never seen one work.
