2015 Hay Season

   / 2015 Hay Season #271
Geologists refer to the areas as the tall grass prairie and the short grass prairie. I am not quite sure what makes the Mississippi River is about the boundary between the two. Sometimes out west brome grass grows but doesn't even head out and that makes really nice hay as it does not get so course.

I will ask about the Brome grass.

I will also look into certified seed, not going through that again.

Thanks.

I did install them but I didn't even look at baler see if still happening yet. I have had to work then usually dark before done got the one place baled up 77 rolls and then my dad cut 20 acre lease yesterday while my brother come rake for me. I cut 10 acres today when got off. I have a lot to get baled and still have all the hay to move

had 12 acres of fantastic sweet clover and brome/timothy mix get rained on last week....after i had raked it. Freak storm came though and got everything soggy. Wheel rake and old side rake just roped it up. Spent the last 2 days going through the field with a hay fork and spreading/turning by hand. Huge blisters on my hands and i feel like crap.

time to buy a tedder. for sure.

Based on the replies I've gotten, I am going to cut the alfalfa again. (Wednesday night) Still researching exactly what to over seed with this fall. Most likely oats.
Thanks to those who helped me.

Matt,
I hate to hear about things like that. Hope you can get it dried out again without any problems.

Yep I had to break down and buy one last year.

I have moved on to my lease place, started baling when I got off and have some to go have made 75rolls so far. It is producing pretty good, heck of some windrows image.jpg

A/C belt was loose had to run without it on almost the whole 75rolls,drove tractor no tools. The NH also has bad Hyd leak where the 3pt arms come out so I have to catch the oil and then add before I start. Once I drive to my brothers place to do the 10acres in front his house,I will be close to a tractor shop to fix it. I never checked the roller today, who knows if it's still a problem I may just trade it in on the 6640 they have on the lot.

Wow, those are some nice windrows! Good luck with your baler.

Got it mostly dry...pulled 275 nice square bales off the field yesterday and left probably 50 or 75 bales in the field because it was still too wet to bale up.

I got everything out of the field and into the barn and about an hour later it started pouring rain. Whatever is left in the field is for sure gone now, i'll just rake it off the side and push it into the creek. Going to take a week or two off of hay stuff for the weather to dry out. Worked way too hard on this little 8 acre patch.
