John Deere 5075 maybe 425 hours broke down in the field on Saturday. Display said NEUTRAL. Transmission disengaged. Walked back to barn. Any ideas ?

Maybe some more info would help. Not sure what "broke down" really means.

What it means is the computer decided the shuttle should go to neutral. (for whatever reason) When that happens you walk home.

Thats exactly what I had to do. The tractor simply went into neutral for some reason. Dealership here said "check" for a disconnected wire under the tractor and check fuses". I have done these things. Fuses are good and didn't see any broken wires.

Okay, so you've done the easy, quick, once over. Now it's time to get serious (and your wallet out). That means you get the "Deere people" (or maybe if you're lucky, someone else that knows the system and has the necessary tech savvy and equipment to trouble shoot it) involved to figure out WHY the computer doesn't like what it sees. Possibilities are many, and no one out here can tell you which one is most likely. Computer controlled transmissions are great when they work, but not so much when they don't. Self experimenting isn't cheap either. The various pressure switches, sensors, solenoid coils, ETC can be crazy expensive.

I would ohm out those wires from end to end and not just a visual inspection...

That's a great idea if you know which wires to "ohm out". There's only a mile of wires in there, and you need to get to both ends of each to "ohm" them out.

Pretty sure that's what wiring schematics are for....

Thanks, Harry for your reply and I agree with you, it is time for the Varsity First Team to move in with their Diagnostic equipment.

There could be error codes, (provided you can access them) but even with that, you need more to work with than an ohm meter. Whether it's an E series or M series, after 2015 you get into the most complicated computer systems.

You only need an ohm meter to check and see if the line is good from point A to B. This is what I commented he do, and you decided to act as if you are the only person who knows anything about working on this stuff.

I have full access to all JD diagnostic tools/systems.

This repair is beyond my experience and pay grade. I agree with Harry and Jeephead on getting professionals involved. I'll post when the problem has been identified and repaired. FYI- my JD 5075 with cab and loader cost $38,800 on September 20, 2016. Dealership quoted $83,000+ for a new 5075 yesterday.

That would be an easy pass for me.

You either have a seat switch problem or power reverser switch is bad.

Okay, on Friday 6th, 2024, John Deere Somerville, TN came to my farm to look at my 5075. Took the service tech about ten seconds to pull a 10amp fuse that was bad. There were two wires that had pulled loose under the cab. One wire came in contact with a metal box that caused the short. I'm such an idiot for not checking ALL fuses.
Appreciate all the responses to this thread.

The only issue my 18 5075E ever gave me was my shuttle wouldn't go forward to reverse and vice versa without kicking into neutral, or using the clutch. It would also humb or squeal sometimes. Turns out the screen filter in the transmission likes to clog especially during breakin, and changing the trans/hydraulic fluid sooner than the manual recommends is a good idea. Basically it was just restricting oil flow which was my issue. If you've not changed your trans/hydraulic fluid after 400 hour it would be a good idea. That screen inside the transmission definitely picks up a lot of trash, and debre.

It's located behind this cover by the PTO shaft.

Great information and the picture is worth a thousand words. I'm close to 400 hours. Thanks LCG.
