Far as I see it theres only 2 real contenders for a rimfire pistol.

Ruger Mark
Browning Buckmark

You flat out wont go wrong with either of those. I chose a Buckmark as everyone who shoots the Mark says its a royal pain in the arse to break down to clean.

Really I'd go with which ever one you come across first at a decent price.

the defacto standard is the Ruger Mark II

but im looking at getting a .22 semi auto also and am leaning toward a 5" barrel Walther P22

I have the Mark II also....one of the sweetest shooting guns I've ever shot....

I have a Ruger MK II target in stainless steel very accurate pistol very dependable. I also have the P 22 to its my second favorite .22 pistol. I don't think you would go wrong with either one. My opinion is the Ruger is a slightly better gun.

I have a Hi Standard, too, a 1949 Model HD Military. 9-shot. Super-
accurate. My dad bought it new in 49.

Smith & Wesson model 41. Must be over 20 years old now (the gun), no feeding or cycling problems, still very accurate and fu-u-un!!

Wonderful pistol...I have one as well, HOWEVER...very expensive.

Well, without dragging it out to check and see what model I have, I will say that I have a Smith and Wesson .22 semi-auto pistol. If I remember right, it has a 10 shot clip and has never jammed or misfired, shoots accurate, and has been super reliable. I bought it 1989, so it may not be made anymore. But it has been a good one.:thumbsup:

Sounds like the 422 (blued) or 622 (stainless) later versions are 2214 & 2216.
