There are a few nice welders not that far from you. nice Hobart Beta Mig 251 in Forest Lake for $1000. I have friends at Bemidji Welding Supply I could check with to see what they have as well. All you need is 26-28 volts to run 71T-1 wire. Good luck on your project..

I'm planning to pop into Bemidji Welding Supply to fill up gas and I was going to ask them about welders too. Also was going to ask them about the double shielded wire. I've never used it before but rated 72,000 pound tension, any position, multi-pass looks good as you say.

I have a Multimatic 200 on 240V can do that voltage but I'm concerned about penetration.

You welding on a bucket and you care about spatter WHY?

Run over to Millerweld board and count up number of posts on blue turd dat quit working and how much ITW wants for replacement board. Machines got too many PC boards in dem now fer any reason other then make manufacturer rich. Open up new machine and look all de Warranty Timers dey put in. Lot people think dem Zip Tie for hold wires together, really dey der to cut into insulation and kill machine after Warranty runs out.

You got 1 bucket to work, what machine gonna do to pay for itself when bucket done? Posts indicate dese machines die when not working, WHY? Maybe cause of cheapest possible component on PC card? Machine wid dat many components needs best possible, not cheapest.

Yo don't be liein to you, buy de wire and run it. Maybe check USAweld to see if dey got dual shield, if dey do it be half price of LWS.
Only worry you got is polarity to run dual shield.

Depreciation whole other story. Figure out way to get paid in Nevada, Texas or Florida. You have more money in yer pocket..

Don't worry about spatter or penetration with dual shield. It's all about putting the volts to it. The only thing I don't like about it is the slag peeling off and falling all over the floor. I hate sweeping.

(removed) has a point here to consider. What do you do when done. New equipment is good, good if you got work and onna have work. 3 large isnt all that much anymore, if a guy welds regular saves it in bulk size consumables and manpower. If it saves bandful of paid hours a week its free in 56 months, anything can be paid for in a fiscal year is free. Prolly save a hundred on taxes max so thats not such an incentive and has been pointed out the green machine doesnt scare me any more and the little 160 class really interest me.

Real current professionals say once you go pulse you dont wanna go back. For one off farm jobs while I have heavier machines never use them. If I have a need for a heavier vert simply usually use 1/8 7018 as I need a little practice anyway and its so easy to size the right weld. If I was regular charging for heavy work would be up to speed with a couple wires. My stuff is so simple use 030 and 035 and should put Co2 on one but shiat its so minor doesnt amount to much. So light I can use old stuff. Its a rare day I run 2 pass for real work.

All things considering I think miller and he likes have kept the lid on a lot of prices for a long time and now outside competition has held it s lot, they have had to introduce features to raise priced from basic models. The little hobarts and tap lincolns are not far from where they were 25 years ago. I am about adapting, got friends way behind as they started with junk and never caught up. A new 255 sounds like a deal. I havnt welded with all the wires and pulse to know if itys better han the way I been doing it since 1980 and common wire in 90 but really the fab I do is minor, mostly repair today and wishing I had a sprout here,,,, for the moment to weld some shiat up as it is. I am tired of weld and grind, using wrenches and need to implement my trophy widow with 50's and 100's hanging out of her pockets. I have slipped back,,,, used to have sports coats and Cadillacs. The extremely burned Carhart look in on its way out.

Berry my boy, been enough years slid under yer boots fer you to know, some men born to be gigolos (according my sister) and you just ain't got degoods.

Good lord boy, how many tons chocolate strawberrys you gently slip onto ladies tongue only to strike out. Der only so many deaf mute sexy liquor store owning girls, and you ain't found one yet likely ain't yer destiny to find. Your luck you find one she allergic to strawberrys.

Man got to know his limitations.

Maybe you get lucky wearing mask wid berry drawn on front. Least you get looked at.

Repeat after me- Welding machine don't need PC boards! PC Boards let you down worse den wimmen.

Our coffee pots with timers, our phones, our washing machines, our Tier IV tractors, and our electric toothbrushes have PC boards, and you know how those boards are so failure-prone.

Tractor doesn't need HST, shuttle shift, or cab. Car doesn't need power windows & door locks. Just because old ways worked doesn't mean new ones are nightmares of complication. A guy can dig a hole with a shovel to prove he doesn't need a backhoe, but IMO he might not inspire many others to do so.

'When the lights go out' (removed) might be the only guy still working, but until they do we have a lot of choices. ;)

I love my Miller 350P pulse MIG
I don’t think I have used the standard MIG mode on it other than trial.
I have not used it for aluminum, steel only

Its a little different for old timers too, they already got the tools they need. I spent about 200 at HF this year simply replacing some worn out stuff. I dont wanna buy any new machines, I really dont wanna use the ones I got but if I gotta do what I gotta do I aint interested in much new. I do have a 300 tig, I try not to use. I can stick weld with it, never have but might try it soon. I can make it look good enough some vertical wouldnt be noticeable I weld it up with my DC
If I was where time was money wouldnt blink over a new machine. We got anyone waiting on a guy to weld it out it cost 2x as much to use old machine.
