Backhoe 2210 backhoe

I just saw a 2210 with a backhoe. It was black with a black and yellow bucket. I've heard the woods was going to build one but it does not say anywhere on it who made it. It had a 4th link on it that went under the tractor and a small seat under the ROPS. anyone with info?

I had posted a couple of months ago that my JD dealer had said that a JD version BH was in the works to be out sometime in '05. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Someone replied and included a link to the Woods site indicating that Woods would be offering a BH for the JD2210. I found no information on whether this was a stand alone unit with its own pump or if it ran off the tractor hydraulics. I would hope the JD version would run off the tractor hydraulics.

I saw it at my grocery store on a trailer. I live in Ontario but the plate on the truck was Wisconsin. That's not uncommon here (we're cabin country). If I see it again I'll try to get a pic. Totally forgot to check if it ran off its own hydraulics or not.

Ah...NW Ontario. I slayed a few Walleye and Northern up your way last month. Saw two Black Bear along Red Lake Road--pretty unusual, as we have never seen bear along the road in the last 20 years. Just in camp at night. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I heard on the radio up there that the bear were everywhere earlier this summer. Something about the weather being out of whack and the fish not being in the streams. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Probably the most bear sighting we've ever had. We are even getting notices about keeping pet food inside etc.
Know of 3 people within 10 miles of me who have shot Bears in their backyards.
Not only are they coming out but they're agressive this year. I know of a guy in TBAY who had one trying to climb up his balcony.
I have a moron of a neighbor who is feeding them for fun. Idiot.

I'm curious as to what it was. I have a Woods hoe for a 2210 on order and I'm not going to have it for another 3 months. They are building Kubota's First followed by NH, Deere then Massy.

While we were at camp north of Red Lake, we heard the story about the Red Lake resident who was mauled. Apparently he was feeding M&Ms from a 1-pound bag to a good-sized black bear in his front yard. When the M&Ms ran out he turned to go inside--the bear had other ideas. After he was released from the hospital, the local constable snapped the cuffs on him and took him off to jail.

There were a few jokes around about buying the 2-pound bag next time, but most comments were about wishing the bear had finished his job of thinning the human herd of one imbecile. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Apparently, JD is coming out with a hoe and is supposed to unveil it at a Florida conference of JD dealers the end of October. This is in addition to the new Woods Groundbreaker hoe. They're both supposed to be sub-frame mounted. The Woods is tractor hydraulics operated and comes with a power beyond kit and a swiveling replacement seat.

One question I have is about the hydraulics. Some say a PTO driven pump and independent hydraulics is the way to go. Others go for using tractor hydraulics. Others say the PTO system is more expensive and is ususally an option but better. ???? So...what's the consensus here?

If you have a high GPM pump flow on the tractor, a PTO driven pump is not necessary.

I was just in the JD dealership yesterday and spoke with the salesman about this very topic. He didn't offer up any information regarding a BH made by JD for the 2210. If there is going to be one, he didn't know anything about it.

In addition, my neighbor had planned on buying the Woods BH for the JD2210 from Messick's in PA. He placed a deposit on it some time ago with the understanding that they would be available right about now. Hs spoke with Messicks last week and was told that they (Woods) has still not started to build them yet (for the 2210). Apparently Neal Messick was quite frustrated about the information they got from Woods. My neighbor has since opted to look at mini excavators instead. Messicks is going to drive one down from PA for us to take a look at.

No offense, but if the Woods is what you want, it might pay to check with Woods, or another dealer. A quick search of Neal Messick's postings here will show he is not above serving disinformation about Deere, not to mention his attempts to compete directly with TBN. I am not saying that he is wrong about Woods, in this case, but it would be good to check with another source, as well. Actually, this should be the case with any dealer. It might be as simple as they are required some kind of minimum for the green version of an attachment and a Kubota Dealer really can't justify it.

Well it is all a moot point at this juncture, as my neighbor is now considering a mini excavator, but yes it is very possible to call them (Woods) up and get a status. I've read where others have called them up and asked them questions.

Neal made no indication that it made any difference to order a green one, as he is already a Woods dealer. He did take a deposit so he would not be stuck with a green one on an orange lot. I think that was reasonable.

I have no personal knowledge about Neal giving any disinformation about Deere. I am aware of him starting his own board, but I am not sure that any of that matters in this particular case. I am not going to defend him nor cruify him or Messicks Inc. I am only reporting what I have heard. Whether the statements are factual or not I'll leave up to someone else to verify.

I can tell you that my Deere dealer can be pretty clueless about 3rd party implements. In fact, they don't keep much of an inventory of implements at all, and what they do carry are either JD or Frontier 99% of the time. When I was there on Monday, they had only about 6-8 or so out "on display" and only 1 wasn't green. That's the reason I sent my neighbor to talk to Messicks about ordering the BH. I know if he'd done it through our dealer, he'd be looking a full list price, plus a markup, plus shipping. It's too bad, but they are just not very competative. It's probably due to our local more than anything.

Personally, If I were a Deere dealer, I wouldn't touch another brand hoe with a 50' pole, either... Not that they are bad, but it can be such a mess for the dealer due to liability issues...

It has been my experience that brand-name dealers carry the 3rd-party attachments not as a profit center for selling the attachments, but so as to enable the sale of a tractor when somebody comes in and asks for something the major brand doesn't make.

The salespeople don't have the ability to be knowledgable on all the 3rd-party attachments, and there probably is not a lot of money in it for them.

In the case where there is a competing name-brand and 3rd-party versions of the same thing, it gets even more difficult to get good information and good servce out of the dealer because he is more interested in selling the name-brand.

For example, I was looking at a Wallenstein backhoe for my JD4100. After looking at the unit in the distributor's wharehouse, the Wallenstein distributor sent me to a JD dealer buddy of his to actually run the purchase through. The dealer wasted all my time trying to talk me into the JD backhoe for an extra $1000 which I already knew I didn't want anyway because I wanted a 3-point, not the awkward JD 46 BH frame-mount. He didn;t budge from list price a penny on the Wallenstein because that would widen the gap further to what he could do on the JD.

When I told the Wallenstein guy about it, he apologized and said that he didn't realize JD made a backhoe for my tractor (the 46 was new at the time). Then he gave me the phone number of a Kubota dealer buddy (his son-in-law) who was much more motivated to work the easy sale dropped in his lap (and couldn't sell me a JD BH, and the Kubota BH he could sell me wouldn't fit my JD, so had no other choice). His price was about $1000 lower than the JD dealer's price for the exact same unit.

I didn't end up buying any backhoe, but I sure learned a lot about those two dealerships and how sales really happen on 3rd-party attachments.

Bottom line - for third party attachments, find the manufacturer's rep/distributor for the territory in question and get the skids greased with him to run the deal through his favorite dealership / sales guy. Also, he is the one to talk to directly about delivery schedules. He is going to care a lot more about the sale than the dealership.
