3-Point Hitch 2305 or similar sized and the northern tool 3pt 13 ton log splitter

I bought the 4-way wedge from Ramsplitter for an extra $75. It slides over the existing wedge, so you can change from 4-way to single wedge very easily.
The 4-way wedge works great for logs that are just the right (perfect) size. If they're too small, you'll get 2 nice chucks that split off the bottom, and 2 slivers that split off the top.
If the log is too big, you'll get 2 big chunks off the top that don't ideally make "perfect" size pieces if you run them back through the 4-way.
Most of the time I split with the single wedge, then slide the 4-way on to do a bunch of "perfect" size logs all at once.

Looks great Tommy;)

Thanks Kenny.

I'm glad I took your advice on the Power Beyond Kit. It works really well with the logsplitter and now I can plug in more things. I wasn't originally thinking TnT, (in fact 2 months ago I didn't even know what that was) but if/when I get a bush hog type mower in the spring, that might be my next thing to tackle.

I have a jd2305 tractor and recently purchase the northern tool 3pt 13ton log splitter. I called my local jd dealer, (Wright Implement Owensobor Kentucky) where I bought the tractor, to verify the hydraulic hose cost. They said $3 a ft. and $10 for each connector. I assummed that they would make hoses to connect to the available hydraulic ports that my fel hooks to. They told me they had to hook it up to the hydraulic lift, the pressure was too much for the other method, and they had to use heavier hoses and more connects. They charged me $169 for parts and $320 labor for 4 hrs. ttl $489. They said it took the mechanic 8 hrs. and they gave me a break. I was expecting about $100 for these hoses. In addition, I used it this weekend and I have hydraulic fluid leaking all over the right underside of the tractor. I'm not a mechanic and was thinking that you and others hooked up to the existing front ports? and I assume you're not having any problems with fluid? I'm expecting them to tell me that this splitter won't work w/my tractor and they can't do anything about it. Help me with some knowledge or experience if you can. Thanks Randy Thayer

Sorry it took so long, Pics of logsplitter in action, and the tractor dressed for winter. Fred

Welcome Randy!

A "Power Beyond Kit" is probably the best way to hook up the splitter. Hopefully that's what the dealer installed. It's a pretty standard installation so he should have been able to quote the job upfront and there should have been no surprises for the mechanic. When using a power beyond "loop" everything must be connected whenever the tractor is running. If the splitter is not in use, the loop connectors must be joined together.

Some of the JD owners here should be able to respond whether that is a reasonable price to install the kit.

Too much pressure to run from the loader valve doesn't make much sense, nor does "heavier hoses." Every high pressure part of your hydraulic system is designed to withstand the maximum relief pressure of the pump.

If it's leaking, the "normally" $80/hr labor apparently didn't get it right.

also any valves have to be of the center open type to allow fluid flow

Original I was going to purchase a 3-point hitch wood splitter, but after some research on TBN and other internet resource I decided to purchase a Northern Tool Powerhorse Dual Split Log Splitter — 20-Ton, 3000 PSI, Model# 11571. I’m very happy with my decision. This is a great splitter and it doesn’t tie up my tractor. The engine normally starts on the first pull. The splitter cycle speed is good plus I can split in both directions. After splitting the log the pieces remain in the cradles. The only thing missing on it was a return filter which I easily added. I really like the fact that the FEL is available to pickup the large logs. I can just roll them on to the cradle!

PS: I just notice Safer Whole Sale has almost the same splitter but with a few extras, but they title is wrong.

I bought the power beyond kit for my 955 at my dealer. Cost of the parts was $250. Installed it myself in a couple hours. There was a thread here on TBN that showed all steps of the installation.

That sucks. You could have bought a nice stand alone for what you have into this 13 ton unit.
