That is a pretty nice looking machine if I do say so myself... :D

Now I am going to spend the weekend looking for down trees to cut up for future splitting.

Hey, if I can warm up the tractor just to bring in an EMPTY wheeled trash container back from the end of our asphalt driveway I can probably find a NEED for a log splitter too.

Back on topic... it sounds the power beyond kit is what you need.

fdmars, this look like a real nice setup! You have got to used that iphone of yours, and get more pictures of this log splitter working. Close-up would be nice also.:)

Soulasphil......... Do you need a rear license plate on your tractor in France?

Yes we do, and two rearview mirrors and an amber strobe light. But we don't have a safety belt or slow vehicle sign. Each country understands safety in a different way! Here log splitters must require both hands on the controls to operate so that fingers don't get caught anywhere and I'm sure there are many more differences.

Thanks, yes it works well, does struggle alittle with logs with big knots or where a branch is, but I was cutting oak with little trouble. Looking to put on a power beyond kit, so I can hook up to back of machine and keep bucket active....Santa IS comming soon!!

fdmars, I see you're in Middletown. Did you get your JD from Midstate? I have a BX and run that same splitter with no problems. It's small but matched well to our sub compacts. Good luck with it and hope Santa brings you that PB kit.

The diverter would work, but the BEST solution (and cheaper also I think) is to get the Power Beyond kit to power the splitter, leaving the loader 100% functional. Might even get a little more speed out of it also because you won't have the restriction of the SCV valve and the small QD's.

Agreed

I have a Wallenstein #310 WX300 Series Wood Splitters - Wallenstein horizontal splitter. Nice, semi compact unit. I used to run off a bungeed 3rd scv but recently set aside my procrastination and plumbed to fit my Power Beyond. With the horizontal I can bring my work up to waist high or lower down to roll big stuff on. I personally prefer the fixed wedge type with the action moving away from the tractor as I can add a 4 way wedge easily plus the split wood drops at the end of the splitter so I can keep going and not trip over the falling wood until the pile gets high. Best of all is I got it as a demo for $550

I do like the dual direction splitting concept though...

When I go in the woods I take my 3720 with pallet forks and a custom built log rack. I have the splitter on the rear and added a weight bracket to help counterbalance as teh splitter is only 350#. I cut the wood, split it, and stack in the rack. Throw a ratchet strap on and I am done handling it. When it's time to burn I drop the rack onto caster boats that I built and wheel into the walk out basement.
