3-Point Hitch 2305 or similar sized and the northern tool 3pt 13 ton log splitter

Splitting wood alone sucks.
I make sure I have a helper, otherwise its just not safe when splitting big pieces, because I split on a horizontal splitter, and the heavy pieces fall on your feet and legs, and then you have to pick them up again. I hate the vertical position, because my back can't handle that for very long at all. The lifting off the ground is horrible for anyones back.

80+cc saw and just saw those big ones down to handling size. Right saw and chain and you will be surprised how fast you can quarter up a large round.

No real lifting to do with the vertical splitter. I drive the tractor to just before the shed where the big pieces have been brought with the loader. I then roll the pieces onto the bottom plate of the splitter and load the split logs on a wheelbarrow for the 20 or 30 yards to the next fire wood pile. Very pleasant work in the strong smell of freshly cut wood. Of course the tractor must be placed so that the wind will take the smoke and noise away from you.

Well, just a follow up for those who are interested, I got the splitter and it works great, have split oak up to 18"dia. with no problems. The splitter has steel wings on it so the logs do not fall off and get your toes. It does run alittle slow but not sure I would really want it to go any faster and it does cut in both directions. one question I do have is....is there any issue with leaving the bucket up in the air and rolled back so I can put logs in it with the hoses unpluged, so I can hook up the splitter? I had the splitter hooked up to the ports that roll the bucket, but when I pulled the ram all the way back the bucket would begin to rise as well. Thanks

Hi Fred:

I would expect to not be able to get one of the hoses connected after this. The weight of the logs in the bucket would create pressure at the connector. Unloading the logs might relieve the pressure or it might not.

I think the diverter valve for the 2305 would solve this problem because you can connect two things at once to the dump circuit. You can of course only use one of them at any given time.

Let someone else weigh-in on this and if you need the diverter I can find the part number for you.

The diverter would work, but the BEST solution (and cheaper also I think) is to get the Power Beyond kit to power the splitter, leaving the loader 100% functional. Might even get a little more speed out of it also because you won't have the restriction of the SCV valve and the small QD's.

Fred, which tractor did you put the splitter on, 2305 or 4115 ? Be nice if you had pictures.

When you plug the iPhone into the computer, it will show in iTunes and under the My Computer icon as a camera, your pictures are there-just drag drag them to a new folder on your desktop.
