I swiped from my dad his old Mighty Mac Chipper/Shredder that was rotting away in his barn unused, since he traded his JD 790 in on the TN60 we have now. He's since purchased a Wallenstein BX62S that he can run properly on 60+ hp machines.

I figured, my 2305 would be fantastic to run it - and I was right. A little adjustment of the belts, greased it up - thing eats sticks now.

However, the issue I ran into, is I forgot my 2305 was a live PTO, not an independent. My current work around is a cinder block and a log on the seat - or, the use of my G/F if she is around. (Although the log and the cinder block don't complain about dust and wood chips flying about...)

I was wondering if there is anyway to disconnect, or other wise make the PTO on the 2305 independent, that anyone knows of? Being a 2008 I'm not too worried about warranty. As well, I'm the only one that uses the tractor besides my girl friend occasionally mowing the grass when I don't have time, or moving plants or firewood around with the bucket. So safety isn't a big deal - she grew up with an old Farmall Cub. I've been farming my entire life.

Seems you just need to disable the seat switch by unplugging the connector and putting a jumper wire across the two female sockets where the male spades enter.

For safety, consider how to shut down the chipper when away from the tractor. And as well, plugging the seat switch back in when finished.

I thought the tractor being put in neutral and then the parking brake set, that the PTO would function when getting off the seat. But different models may vary. However according to the manual, not on the 2305.

NOTE: PTO operation for this machine is not intended to be used when the operator is off the seat. The safety interlock system will stop the engine and all implements if the PTO is operating and the operator leaves the seat.

I know for some Deere compacts it is doable, albeit more complicated than it should be. Such as perhaps turning off the machine, starting in neutral, then engaging pto, or something like that. Don't quote me on the process or order, consult the manual. I do believe it's been talked about here. And be safe.

I picked up a Wallentein BXM32 chipper/shredder last fall and was faced with this same problem with my 2305. I used the trick of disconnecting the seat switch and replacing with a jumper wire across the contacts for a while. However, a more permanent solution was to pikj up a toggle switch at TSC, a few feet of wire to alllow for quick "switch" between live and independent PTO.

I believe that if the park brake is set than the pto will work. Thats how you can run the genset.

I believe you set the parking break and put transmission in neutral and only engage rear pto is all you have to do. At least on the 2520 is what the manual says.

Might be something I do... could be handy to wire one back to the ROPS for use on the chipper.

I tried the parking brake and all... but I'll give it another go when I hook it back up, plus look through my manual.

On page 19 of my 2305 Operating Manual it says in BOLD letters, "NOTE: PTO operation for this machine is not intended to be used when the operator is off the seat ..." Hence the reason for my toggle switch, I mounted mine on the left fender just under the edge of the seat. I don't accidentally bump it, but it is easily accessible. It can be thought of as an emergency kill switch too- just move it from the 'off seat operation' position to normal while using the PTO and it will immediately stop the tractor when you are off the seat.

Good luck.
