Here's the short video. You can hear the difference between up and down. How does this compare to everyone elses?

rlcowder... go back in the replies and find the pics that Labrat posted of the u-joint connections. I tinkered today rotating the connections/alignments and the noise shake & noise difference was very noticeable. When you get things lined up just so it really makes the unit much quieter. Make sure you have things aligned as he showed and I know you'll see a difference. Let us know...

I aligned the shafts already. I tried several variations and off sets. I think I'm giving up. I posted another video of the same night. Just clearing the driveway of a little snow. John_Deere_2210_with_47_Snowblower.mpg - Google Video

Sorry to hear that... ultra frustrating :( ... Great video though... I watched a short bit of it.

Good news! After driving through a near blizzard to get a new hyd. hose fitting to replace the one I ripped out of the snowblower lift cylinder, I took the oppurtunity to correctly phase the pto shafts per a previous posting. Took it out to test blow and no noise when lowered! Thanks Labrat! Had to drive through the blizzard to get to a different JD dealer because the one closest to me closed!

I'm with you rlcowder, I have all but given up on my blower, we have a little light snow I am getting ready to go blow as soon as the block heater get's the tractor warm. (it's -8 out right now) I have checked the phase angle on my u-joints. alinged the sprockets in alingment, out of alingment, tight loose chain and ran a dial indicator on the shafts. The original shaft was bent about .008" but the one the dealer replaced is no better as far as the noise goes. Hopefully our usual march snows are heavier and can give it a good workout. At this point if it breaks again I will not except anything from the dealer but a new blower.

If mine breaks I will sell what I can for parts. We just don't get enough snow here anymore to justify it. So far this year the biggest snow was 4 inches. We got a handfull of 1-2 inch snows. It make me mad when I think about how much this blower cost me.

After I posted that my 47" snowthrower was not running loud, we got 5 feet of snow in two days. Sometime during the battle, I noticed the blower was making noise when I lifted it. Shut her down to check it out. There was 'play' in the blower (not the auger). I noticed that the shear bolt was loose - not sheared. Tightened it up with two wrenches, and the noise stopped. My PTO shaft yokes are in phase, my PTO shaft is installed with the larger outer shaft to the transaxle, the smaller, inner shaft to the drive assembly (small shaft forward).

mine was loud as all **** when the shear bolts were worn and the keys in the gearbox were worn. Once I replaced them it was back to being quiet again, the only noise is when fully raised and even than it isn't that bad. I'm convinced that the noises from these things are driveline related and are compounded with any backlash in the blower itself.

My inclination after watching and listening to rlcowder's video, is that when he lowers the blower, something is flexing and causing a moving part to rub.

Just my .02 :)

Possibly the slip joint in the driveshaft sticking or bottoming...causing the input shaft to get misaligned???????
