3 point weight capacity

The prior owner said he pulled it with a drawbar on his 3 point hitch because the tongue on sat so low. I'm starting to notice another problem, this one with definitions. I'm seeing about an equal split from the folks I talk to about what the heck a drawbar is. Is it the what you use to pull trailers (what I originally thought) or is it the bar you attach to the lift ends of a three point hitch?

For those of you wondering what on Earth I bought this old thing for, don't even look at the sprayer booms in the back. They're not hooked up right now. This has been rigged for a hose, attached at the front, to water trees. That's exactly what I was looking for when I bought it. I'm soon to have a LOT of saplings to water, placed over a twenty acre area.

I have a truck but 1-it's old and tired, and 2-I have to take it to work. So that's where the tractor comes in. Now I'm starting to think there might not be a safe way to do this with the tractor. Hmmm... By the way, if I try to attach the tongue to the drawbar (the one under the tractor) the whole rig will tilt seriously forward as the drawbar is considerably lower than the tongue on the trailer.

There are two types of drawbars getting mentioned here. Primarily the drawbar is a solid metal bar that extends from a fixed location under the tractor. This is where you want to hook that sprayer.

The other drawbar mentioned is a 3 point hitch drawbar. This is a solid metal bar that spans the lower lift arms of your 3 pt hitch. This can be used for towing things but is not ideal for all the reasons mentioned above.

Again, your tractor should be able to handle that sprayer if hooked to the standard drawbar.

Edit: Here is a picture of both. You can see the 3 pt hitch drawbar (red) with the ball on it. It is rarely used. The standard drawbar is what she is getting ready to hitch the hay trailers to.

Seriously, with the axle that far back, and the fact that you're not on the road, there is going to be adequate tongue weight that it's not going to come up. I wouldn't be afraid to use it with the TPH drawbar and have the hitch high enough to keep the tank level. I weigh the risk, but I don't set around paralyzed with fear to the degree that it keeps me from doing something that may have a risk associated with it. I think that'll work well to water your trees.

If you think it will come up just get a set of stays.. they are 2-piece and adjustable and hook from toplink to the side of the 3pt bar. lift 3pt drawbar to where you want it, tighten bolts on telescoping stay. i think you can get it at tsc for? 14$? per side if you go 2 sided.

Okay, let's wrap this one up then. I'm going to do some math, complete a couple of backyard experiments, and get back for a follow-up post. Thanks again for the inputs.
