The local JD dealer tells me the 790 is being replaced with the 3005. They should have one in shortly he said. Has anyone seen any specs on this new model? If so could you provide a link?

Thanks, EL.

On JD website, while looking under "manual" for a particular model, type in 3005 and it'll bring up the 3005 owner's manual with specs. And yes, it is a new 790. This is where I also discovered there's gonna be a 2720 in the future, which is a 2520 with a few more horses.

Here is the owners manual for a 3005. If you look about 9-10 pages into the manual on the safety stickers page you will see a picture of a tractor with a 790 decal on the hood.

There's been talk of a HST for the 790 over the years, could this be it?

Well not according to the linked owners manual, looks almost exactly like my 770's manual...:D Maybe next time.

I'd read the 790's replacement was to be an HST tractor (no gear tranny).
Since the linked manual shows a picture of the 790 (as Gordon wrote), I don't think this manual is really for the 3005 (even though the first page states it is).
Deere makes and sells a cool tractor, but their online information leaves a lot to be desired.

Further back in the manual there is a picture of of the tractor with a 3005 decal--not in the same place the 790 decal is but more like the 3xxx series placement. Maybe it really is the next generation.

Was at the dealer yesterday and they had a new 3005 on the lot. The 3005 decal is low on the front of the side panels. Otherwise, it looked exactly like every other newer 790 I've seen. I didn't notice and evidence of HST, but I didn't look at it in super detail.

Comparing hydraulic pressure in the 3005 and 790 manuals, 2422-2698 psi for the 3005 and 2050 psi for the 790.

Sure looks like this is the manual for a 3005 to me, no HST, a gear tranny, same 3pt lift "815lbs"

See "Service Engine" section " at "Cleaning Grill and Side Screens" for the picture with 3005 decal.

It looks like it has a bigger alternator, 40 Amp vs. 20 Amp for the for the 790. Also the main hydraulic pump is a bit bigger, 5.6 GPM vs. 5.4 GPM and they probably did the shim thing on the relief valve to get the higher pressure.

As much as I respect John Deere, I have to ask "why" on this one. I can see a model number change for a substantial change but my neighbors 790 has more differences to my 790 than this. Strange...

I've heard Deere did this just to align model numbers

I thought I read that it had a different engine in it to meet emissions regulations, I think one of the dealer's that post's here wrote that?

Correct, the two main reasons were to bring the model numbers in line with the rest of the CUT line-up as well as somehow being able to denote the motor EPA changes.
