The one in the picture has 13-6 16's on it.

Also, on the ROPS, the black container has the operator manual in it. I thought it may be for refreshments. ;)

I thought so, last year they were shipping with 31 x 13.5 - 15 inch tires. The new ones look quite a bit larger in diameter.

Thanks for the pics Eric. The sheet metal looks identical to my 790, other than the decal. I'd be surprised if they changed it due to service parts complexity and tooling costs. Even the front axle looks the same, but maybe something in the hub?

My 790 owning co-workers agree with you Rob. Also, they told me to check the price I was give sounded way to high. They didn't deduct the std bucket and a few other things with the loader. What I built on the JD site comes out to mid 17's on the 3005. I'll call them back on Monday.;)

Yeah Chuck you are right on tire size per a 790 owner. My tractor, in my avatar has 13*6*16 on it. One big ole gob of rubber for sure.

As much as I respect John Deere, I have to ask "why" on this one. I can see a model number change for a substantial change but my neighbors 790 has more differences to my 790 than this. Strange...
My guess is commonality. With the minor changes to the 790 Yanmar 3TNV82A engine its now common with the 3120 engine. Now they only need to import one configuration to cover both machines.

It's nice to know Deere is keeping this fine tractor around. However, I wonder how long this will be since Deere and Yanmar ended their partnership.
Has anyone actually seen this divorce in writing from Deere or Yanmar? If the divorce does happen, Deere would need to redesign the entire 2000 series, 3000 series, and the new 4105 CUTs. They all have Yanmar engines. Engines are an integral part of the design of the tractor. You just can't drop another brand engine in place of the Yanmar. Deere does not make small diesel engines. They would need to develop and produce an entire new line of small engines. I don't think they will go to Kubota for engines.
My guess is that the relationship change is that Yanmar will stop building whole tractors (790 and 990) for Deere, but will continue to OEM engines and components for Deere. Deere will then build the 790 (now 3005) in Georgia with the Yanmar OEM components (along with the rest of the Deere CUTs). This may be another reason to change the model to 3005. Also, it makes Yanmar's relations with Cub easier if they aren't also making whole tractors for Deere to compete with Cub.
My 790, which I bought this past summer was manufactured in May 2007 in Osaka, Japan by Yanmar. This may have been one of the last ones made in Japan by Yanmar - if my theory is correct. Maybe someone that has a dealer with the new 3005 can look at the ID plate to see if it is build in Osaka or Georgia.

I stopped to look at the 3005 today and it looks just like a 790, Yanmar engine and all. I have an earlier 790 and I haven't looked at it in two months but it looks exact other than the decals.
If there was a JD-Yanmar split you wouldn't know it from what I saw.

Well, I stopped to look, and above the PTO is a plate that identifies Japan as the county and the same prior manufacturer. I'm sure they changed some proprietary stuff that is expensive to replace but it looks the same as the one in my barn. Actually, I like the 790 with decals better.

That is good news. I'm glad they are not messing with success. The 790 (now 3005) is a great machine and fills a niche nicely (us guys that like simple - not much to go wrong, economical machines). To me, it squashes the rummer of bad vibes between JD and Yanmar. Also it means continued support for us with 790's.

Sixdogs, did you happen to peek at the alternator and hydro pump on the left side of the motor to see if they look the same as the 790? The new spec sheet says they are bigger but the on-line parts catalog for the 3005 lists the same part number for the alternator and hydraulic pumps as the 790. Curuous...

If you go through the configurator - DEERE-index
you can browse to the new 3005 pricing page.
