Give the gas fumes a few minutes to settle into the nest, fire is not necessary the fumes will kill them. Fire is however really satisfying :D

I've had good luck with charcoal lighter fluid. It's not as explosive as gasoline. I squirted a good amount down the hole and lit it. It created a 10" flame shooting out of the hole that looked like a fusie. It burned for about an hour with an occasional little flaming kamikaze shooting out of the hole. When it was all done so were the bees.

Please! Ground warps and "yellow Jackets" are NOT bees!

Bees fall into an entirely different category. Though both are "beneficial".

No need for fire, I like to take a drink bottle fill it about half way with gas turn it upside down in the hole and walk away that blocks the hole and the fumes kill the yellow jackets. do it about dusty dark and pick the bottle up the next day.

So the plot thickened today. I could not find the hole they were/are living in. So I burned the area where I discovered them.

Also dropped the tractor off at the dealer yesterday. Will update with the actual problem when it is diagnosed.

Biggest problem was the tractor is in the shop so I had to control it by hand with a shovel.

For the yellow jackets in the ground...I spray hornet killer in the hole then follow up with the propane fired fogger. Sometimes I will see the fog coming out of the ground some 5 feet away. I do this a few times and plug the hole with a rock or stick.

That is something else I am trying to avoid as I do not want to focus on one entry for the yellow jackets and get attacked with them coming out of another entrance.
