30X50 barn

Mike, I used National Barn (east) to build a 30x50x10 for me about 18 months ago. It came in at $8900, plus I had the floor poured myself for $2600. I got a quote about 2 months ago to build a 30x40x14 with a 10' 'porch' .....$10,100 not including floor.
They have a branch that serves Texas http://www.nationalbarn.com/Central/CentHomeFrameset.htm BTW, I thought they did a really great job.

BB-TX, I've been thinking about a metal building and possibly using Mueller. How long did it take you to assemble the main structure? How much can one person actually do? I assume that you had several folks helping out. thanks

I wish I had tracked my hours, but I didn't. My land is about 30 miles from where I live and 60+ miles from work. I would work on weekends and a 2-3 hours after work many days. Took about 6 weeks doing it like that. Had good weather most of the time. In June so the days were the longest. Almost all of that I did by myself. A helper would have speeded it along quite a lot. The 2' overhangs added a lot of extra trim work.
You will need help at least with the main columns and beams and with the roof panels. All else I did alone. I have a neighbor with a large IH farm tractor with a hay spike mounted at the top of the FEL. It just barely (by a couple inches) raised the main beams up high enough.
I have posted a picture before but it has been a while and I don't remember the thread. I am currently out of town and don't have the picture on my laptop. I can send it to you when I get back if you would like.

thats the same size DT construction is suppose to build for me: i called them yesterday, and they said they would be here this morning, by 7:30, so we will see, price about $6400
and i am "thinking" about putting a concrete floor in: depends on the price, concrete is about $70 a yard here.

Part of the bids I was getting was for the concrete floor that they were saying would run $15K --- Just for the floor! .... I obviously need to keep lookin'.... BB -- I pass Mueller everytime I drive out to the country place. The wife and I were talking about it last Fri as we passed it - we want to go in and get some quotes. It was handy for you only being 30 - 60 miles away from your project. I'm 140 mi. --- I'm afraid that if I had a Mueller delivered out there - by the time I got there for my second day - half - or all the material would be gone. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Mornin Heehaw,
Interesting reading. I have been looking at a local building supply house that does garages and workshops completely built to your specs or you assemble yourself. They are LaValleys out of Rutland. The whole building is prefabed and trucked to your site. If you do it yourself I think you save about $3000. Im looking at a 24 by 40 Gambrel style building with maybe a shed addition for $23,000 with the concrete slab.

ps I would do the site work myself.

My building is a quanset hut 40 X 60 X 16. The only thing I would do differently would be no sliding doors, I hate them. I wish I would have gone with roll up doors. I built it myself, the price including concrete was around $25,000 6 years ago. My neighbor had a 30 X 50 X 12 built out of Arkansas w/out concrete (built while I was building) $5,800. They had it completed in less than 24 hours. Mine took me 6 weeks.

i'm taking pics as they go along, its noon here now, and they have all the 5X5 post in, and are putting the bands around: 5 guys showed up to do the construction. looks like i've got a little more drop than i had figured on, but they use 14ft post, so getting the 10ft height won't be a problem: the metal will just be quite a ways off the ground on the low side..which i will do something about later. at least it will keep the sun and rain off my equipment: i think the sun does more damage than the rain does.
