I'm thinking of buying a 3 pt log splitter to do some seasonal splitting. Fireplace my secondary heat source, so I don't use as much wood as others do with wood stoves. After some research, the Speeco sold by TSC seems like a decent unit for the price and my needs.

My main concern is that with my MF GC 2310's hydraulic flow of 6.1 GPM the splitter will work pretty slowly. I won't be splitting more than a cord or two at a time so its not so much a practical concern as much as how annoying it might get waiting for the cylinder to cycle.

If anyone has used the TSC splitter unit (or similar) with a tractor having similar hydraulic flow I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Sir,
I have a log splitter like yours from TSC. I use with my Mahinda 2810 Tractor. It works real good, my Tractor has about the same GPM as yours. I split wood for 35 years with a maul. I love my TSC splitter.

Same splitter here too. I actually have to idle my 45hp tractor down to about 1100 rpm, otherwise the splitter cycle is too fast for me. For home use, I think 6 gpm will work just fine

I started with a splitter using the hydro outlets from my tractor, but with the cost of fuel I put a 6hp gas engine and pump on it. I can split about twice as much wood with the same amount of fuel.

Never thought of it that way, probably for good reason. Diesel here is currently within +/- 10 cents of gasoline. At 1100 rpm, my 45hp (diesel) tractor uses less than a gallon for 3 hours splitting. That works out to well under a buck an hour for fuel. Fuel economy on a little MF 2310 should be even better. Is this a hair you really wanna split?

Thanks for the input gents.

For my use, cost of fuel is a non-issue. Besides-my hairs are too short to split.
