Like I said, it's slowly coming together. It's like I get something done to the barn/shop when I need to use it. There's never enough free time to just "set it up".

Good question about the noise and location.
I was figuring on having the compressor out side the barn at first but I haven't gotten around to build a foundation and shelter for it ... just like I was telling Shane. It gets pretty hot and cold here so I was wondering how good that would be on the compressor. In any case, the spot I picked out is far enough away from where I work on the tractors but close enough to check vital signs on the compressor. I suppose I could build an enclosure for it there? I may also move the surface grinder so the compressor is away from the machinery a bit.

Rob, before you do anything with the compressor, wire it up and hear just how loud it really is. I know that my Ingersoll Rand is very loud, but the Kobalt that I bought for the ranch is surprisingly quite.

Just a thought, before you do a bunch of work and then find out that yours is quite also.

Yeah, that's a good idea Brian.
I'll wire it up next week when I get back to 3R. I could probably live with the noise since I'm deaf in one ear and dumb in the other, so it shouldn't make any difference. My goal is to have it only come one once a day and if all the plumbing is good, one fill up should last pretty much all day long. I generally don't run pneumatic tools so all I use it for is to blow off my work.

Wouldn't you know it, Loretta and I went out for dinner one night and when we came home a giant old Oak had fallen across the road. It partially blocked the road just before Murder Meadow where South camp is. The next day we got our saws and started bucking it. I did all the sawing and threw the cut logs onto the road. Loretta did all the stacking.



Man, that is some hard work, especially since we weren't planning on it.
We were pretty tired but there was more to do. Don't know if you can tell or not, but behind that stack there was another Oak down from when we pushed the road in. So the next day we came back and cut that one up too. Not sure, but I guess there are another 10 or 20 big Oaks down all along the road that we need to cut up.

There must have been a wild fire that went through the property many years ago because many of the older Oaks have the center of them burned out. Many are still living but I know they are like that too.

Rob you could use a hand threader and your lathe I did that for a few years till we got rigid 535 at work.

Did you get the hold back vice for the power pony? It will save you a broken wrist.

I'm in Rancho right now and will get to it later in the week when I get back up there. Turns out I might have bought it for nothing because I might put in copper tubing instead of pipe.

Hey Rob,

How about installing this in your shop/garage: Eastwood Co. - 100' Garage Air LineKit w/ 12 Wall Mount Clamps . Looks kind of interesting with an easy install. I know it's more expensive than 3/4" schedule 40, but might be about the same price as copper or maybe less.

That looks interesting and easy to do. I saw the extra coil of 1/2 line was rated at 150psi. Is that right? I'll consider my options with that kit, but I know I'll be running (about) 200' of lines. Plus, I plan on having many hose outlets ... like about 10 or more. I want to add ball valves for separate lines too, in case of a blow out, repair or alteration of the system and water traps of course. I'll figure out the price and compare that kit to either copper or galvanized pipe. It sure looks inviting due to ease of installation though.

Don't know about the quality of the airlines I sent you a link to. I just saw them when I was surfing Eastwoods website. Personally I have 3/4" schedule 40 throughout my shop. A word of advise though: Make sure connection from your air compressor to whatever type line you use is flexible. I plumbed straight out of my compressor with 3/4" schedule 40 and it's starting to leak. The vibration has caused the leak. I plan to replace this connection from the compressor to dryer with a flexible line this summer. As for now I just turn on the compressor and let it build up pressure when I'm going to use it. Of course you don't have that option being off the grid.

I have my 60 gallon, belt driven, single stage, Black Max in the corner of my shop. It's not too loud and doesn't run that often. I was worried about the pressure control valve, etc... freezing in the winter if I had put it outside.

As far as the signature goes, the minivan doesn't hurt my feelings quite as bad as it did my wifes. She made that, "I'll never drive a minivan" statement after we had our daughter. Shortly after our son was born she gave in. She had a 2005 VW Jetta TDI and 2 car seats, a stroller, and all the other junk wouldn't fit in the car. She wishes she had that Jetta back.
