Rob,
I have found that it is really only Americans who use dryers much. The rest of the world hangs their clothes to dry. How about hooking up a nice clothes line for Loretta? It was a big change for me when i moved to france with no dryer jsut a washer. But then I got to thinking, you know it is kind of a waste of electric when we have all this sunshine. You know Rob there is nothing wrong with a man hanging out the laundry and taking it in either...

With the guest house on the farm that we rent out for vacation rentals and our condo in Cannes that we rent out for vacation renatals I do quite a bit of laundry so after a couple years here I bought a dryer but I only really use it in the winter and then not even all the time. Take a look at these drying racks which is what 99% of the French use, they don't even need to hang a cloths line Amazon.com: Clotheslines & Drying Racks - Laundry Storage & Organization: Drying Racks, Clotheslines & More

Hi Rox,
Guess what, I already do the laundry and vacuuming at home. You must be a mind reader.:D
I've been doing it for many years but since moving up here, Loretta is giving it a try. Since she works out of the home, she can get a load going while working through here computer and the phone. I'm too busy out in the field screwing around with the tractor. But back at the city home she had to go into the office and I do all the house work there.

We still spend 2 days a week at the city home and she usually bring the laundry with us so I can do it there.
Our home there is right on a private Country Club golf course so I never hung the laundry out. But I remember as a kid every home I lived at my Mom always hung the laundry out to dry. I guess it would be OK to do it out here at the ranch since we have 27 acres now and the nearest neighbor is about a 1/2 mile away.

Talk about a well rounded person machine, weld, laundry and cleaning along with the repairs and I was worried about Loretta finding your mower tires in the dish washer.

I hope my wife doesn't find out you do all this it will put a lot of more jobs on my honeydo list.

Oh and don't forge he also cuts his wifes hair! He's a real renaissance man that Rob. And Loretta is no slacker either... Sounds a lot like our house, it's all work it's all gotta get done there is not a lot of gender specific work around here we both pitch in.

Dust is the only real problem with drying clothes outside. My mom used to dry clothes outside all time... but the nearest farm was a few miles away. Here I have 80 acres of dirt right across the road. We do dry things outside in the summer though when the conditions are right.

Since there was rain predicted, Loretta and I finished off the burn pile yesterday.
First was to take all of that gnarly brush and trees over to the same burn spot. Here are some photos of the Kama with dual bucket grapples doing some serious bush moving. It is not a true grapple set up, but just the same, we are very happy with the way it picks stuff up. I think a bucket grapple is a great all around combination for grapple and bucket work.

Then we got it to the burn pile.
Since it had been warm the last couple days, the brush was dried out and burned right away. We kept adding to the pile when it dwindled down enough so as not to scorch the tractors. We constantly cleared around the burn pile throwing sticks in, but it was so hot you could barely get with 6 feet of it. The last photo was taken this morning, but when it started raining, you could see the steam coming off the pile.

Loretta had to work all day but came out several times to help a little.
When she signed off work, she did a lot of wood separating. You can see we got the entire pile of trees and shrubs cleared away finally. The building wood pile has been reduced also. The construction wood pile has been there for a year, but the shrub and branches and Oaks had been there for almost 4 years. We can see down our gully once again. Last photo is Loretta taking a break late in the afternoon. I caught her while she was resting and day dreaming.
I love that photo.

It's just pouring rain right now.
But this morning before it started, I walked out to snap these pictures.
Looks like were about to have an early Spring? There are lots of wild flowers popping out already. The orange ones are Fiddle Necks. Loretta has some potted Lavender growing too. I noticed the Buckeye trees have started sprouting like crazy already. They are the first to bloom and have giant streams of white flowers.

Even the mighty Oaks are starting to sprout their leaves.
Check out this one and see where those sprouts are coming from. It's a very old Oak that has once been burned through, but every year it manages to sprout new branches and leaves. Too bad I'm going to cut it down though. It's trunk is so shattered it could fall on the kids at any time.

Here are some shots of our property.
The first two pictures are of our front yard. You can see the barn in the background and where we keep the woodpile in the circle. We keep our tractor implements there too. The second pictures shows the area we have been working on, where the brush piles were. The last two photos are views of the back yard. You can see the cattle ranch across the valley. The last picture shows where our nearest neighbors are. You can't see their place when trees are full with leaves. Pretty much everything is getting green again. The Oaks will have new foliage in the late Spring when the grass will start to turn brown again.
