Rob - No post since my birthday (24Feb). You and Loretta didn't slide into the Pacific because of "THE BIG ONE" (earthquake) where California slids into the ocean and Las Vegas offers beach front property for sale. LOL

Hi guys,
Yes you are right denmansoft, I have been busy working on Loretta's tractor.
Also been taking a few photos of what's happening on the ranch and will post some pictures later in the week.
Thanks for asking Paguy!

Rob,

Don't know about the quality of the airlines I sent you a link to. I just saw them when I was surfing Eastwoods website. Personally I have 3/4" schedule 40 throughout my shop.

Chris

I used to have the same in my shop. "Used to" that is until the pipe literally exploded while running a needle scaler. A 4' section and a 4 way blew to heck and gone and put shards every where. It was LOUD and the stuff shot around FAST and HARD. I was wearing thermal carharts at the time and didn't get hurt, but nearly had to change undies!

Now I have 3/4 black iron.

I have a few photos of what what's been happening around the ranch.
The last month I've been very busy "making stuff" and working on Loretta's tractor. There were a bunch of things ... modifications and improvements to make her tractor better and more functional. I added a complete Top and Tilt system to it plus some safety features and a grapple improvement. It's worth checking out because there are a lot of nifty little things I made ... all from scrap I had lying around for years.
You can read about all of them here:
New Mods to Loretta's 284 Jinma

I didn't get the air compressor and lines run yet though.
I did reorganize a bit while doing all that tractor work. I also installed a couple handy items in the barn. One is hanging a retractable 40' long electric reel which makes it handy when I need electricity at different places other than the wall outlets. The other is a 25' air hose reel which, of course, is not functional yet. It will give me air in places where there are no outlets. Both those retractable reels are bolted to the ceiling beam.

One of the things I did was to dig up some decomposed granite for future road repairs.
You may remember the "granite pit" I started way back? I went back into it and ripped up a bunch more with my boxblade. I piled it up for future use. Also shown is a photo from the shop looking out the bay door while I was working on Loretta's tractor in there.
I got to see the landscape change as Spring approaches.

Speaking of Spring, I walked around and took a few photos of the property.
It's starting to look beautiful around here again.
The last photo below is of Murder Meadow which is in front of South Camp (in the background).

As I made my way down the road, I saw some interesting Racoon and Turkey foot prints.
Hmmm, Spring Turkey season is right around the corner too. A turkey feast sounds like a good idea when the kids and grandkids come up for Easter Holiday.

The rest of these photos below show approaching the Log Home.
You can see how much it's "greened up" around the place. These photos are a couple weeks old now and right now the Oaks have gotten their new leaves. I'll try to get some photos of them next time up.

You may remember that Brian (MtnViewRanch) stayed with us while he was attending the Ag Fair.
He brought his giant Road Grader for me to try out. I finally dried up enough so I could. It's bigger than my 7' boxblade and possibly even heavier? Longer and wider for sure. Anyway, once I got it hooked (he had no pins on it) I dragged it around the road many times. The blades cut very good and in fact, more than I really wanted. I had to fiddle around with the Top and Tilt and position control to get it so both blades were cutting just a little bit. Once I got the setting correct, it was easy to drag and level the road.
My 55hp Kama handled the big blade easily.

I noticed that the added length of this blade could get the road a little more level that my boxblade ... at least in theory. Not necessarily smoother, but more level from point to point. It acts like a land plane. The blades on it are very aggressive and have more cutting angle than my box blade. It did get it to cut off few humps and bumps and popped out some rocks that the box blade jumped over before. I went over the road several times with it. There are less little bumps in it than before, so it did a really good job of leveling.

One thing I noticed was that the (now) loose soil would spill over the blades and back onto the road. The other thing I noticed that loose rocks became easily stuck under the blade. Parts of the road that were already smooth and hard where it didn't cut as much came out fine. But other parts I had to go back over to smooth the loose soil down and get rid of the rocks. I removed the Grader blade and put on my box blade (photos below). It collected the loose rocks and soil and really smoothed the road out.

Over all, my Opinion is that the Grader is a specialty implement designed more for leveling a rough surface into a smooth level roadway. The boxblade is more versatile being as you can use it to cut gutters, move dirt backwards and smooth by tilting all the way back to use the rear smoothing blade only. I believe the box blade would be handier to establish a road or trail first to cut it and pitch it and cut the gutters. Then use the grader to level it more and finally, the box blade again to smooth it all out.
Having both of these implements would be good for road prep and finishing. But if I could only have one, I'd still choose the box blade for me.

Rob, Thanks for the update! I think this thread has quite a few addicts, and we all appreciate new pics. The place is gorgeous! How well does your road hold up to heavy rain, or is that a minor issue in your climate? Glad Loretta is getting some upgrades on the tractor. I am sure they will pay off for you in all she gets done! All the best, Brian
