Mike - Yep, according to the spec sheet I got from the dealer - they all appear to use the exact same engine - same size, *all* are turbo, and same rating RPMs. There may well be internal differences but Deere is going to have to do a lot of justification to charge a lot more between models if it's only an injection or turbo pressure setting.
Also look close at those brake pedals - it does appear to be a reverser - and there does appear to be a foot throttle barely visible. But note that those are now *bottom* 'hung' pedals - not suspended like on the 10 series. Not sure I like that - it looks like a big reach even for size 12's compared to just the toe tap before. Possibly less foot room as well. Wonder why they did that?
Richard - the spec sheet does say that the 4720 is hydro only - but note that is NOT the replacement for the 4710. It's 4120=4610+, 4320=4710+ (the plus is that these are the closest equivalent in power but the 20 series still have more torque and rise, and the 4510 equivalent doesn't exist). The new 4520 and 4720 are beyond anything the 10 series had. My dealer has earmarked the first 4320 reverser in as mine, that's already more powerful than the 4710 I was trying to find, but I told him to find out the price difference to go to the 4520 as well.
Robert - the engine hp I listed as the 'gross' hp. It does seem as if they are now listing just 1/2 PRO hp loss for the hydro. As usual, that does not reveal the drawbar loss however.
Ole Hickory - it may be that if the whole rearend is truely just a carry forward from the ten series - then the tranny/clutch pack is not up to the torque of the 4720. Which raises a potential question of how reliable these will be compared to the old large frame JD's with the power boosted this much. My gut feel based on the postings on this forum is that the large frame JDs have been considerably more reliable than the mid-sized units. Could be that the mid-sizes just outsell the large frame by that much but there appears to be a lot of 4710 owners here.
Still waiting for more details from my dealer... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
