( RedDog - I like your outside lighting fixtures! Could you ask your contractor friend as to the manufactuer and where he got them from.

I like the clean "commercial" look of them. I will ask him soon, probably next Nascar race, as he is a Ford fan and I'm Chevy. Makes for interesting conversation between us. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I still have some of the boxes laying around.

All my light fixtures were purchased at Loeb electric in Columbus, Ohio.
Also, an estimate of per fixture costs.

The one outside light was $154, and I still need to buy another one. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The six interior lights were $740. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif So as you can see I have quite a bit $$$ in lights. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Bluecreek, I think reddog has shared the cost of the fixture.

They wouldn't be cheaper. They would actually cost the same.

( Great looking barn Reddog. I hope to build one in the next few years and what I have planned is very similar to yours. )

Thank you! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm not finished with it yet. I still need to get the aprons poured, and a couple more lights.

As of right now, I have 36 electric boxes wired. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif To me you can never have enough outlets.

You don't think they would be cheaper? Maybe we are confusing one another,,,, I'm talking about them being "cheaper" to operate, not "cheaper" cost to buy.

I am by no means an electrician, but I was under the assumption they would use about half the electricity if wired to 220V.

Re: 40\'x64\'x12\' Pole Barn

Nope - will cost the same. watts is watts. At 220 the current will be 1/2 that of 110. However as given earlier watts is current times volts. So if the volts is 2x but the current is 1/2 it all comes out the same. The only savings would be in wiring losses. I doubt if you would notice this on your bills.

Re: 40\'x64\'x12\' Pole Barn

there is probably a gain in that the transformers will operate more efficiently at 220v (aka they'll run cooler only having to transform to 220 to 440 or whatever the lamps take). Heat means wasted energy ...

Re: 40\'x64\'x12\' Pole Barn

With that small of a ballast/transformer, you'll never see a difference in the electric bill on 220V versus 220V.

( I mounted the air compresser up in the air. I like it up out of the way, plus a refrigerator will be going beneath it.

My brother brought me a bunch of rough cut lumber that I figured I my as well put to good use. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Interesting method of handling the compressor, did you consider mounting it outside under it's own small roof? I'm thinking about doing that to reduce the interior noise when it runs.

Oh, and laying out a 40'x72' pole barn myself using the same construction techniques.

No I didn't. I knew all along where the compresser was going to go.

A friend of mine did his that way. I figure he forgets it is even out there!! Probably forgets the maintance on it also. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good luck on your building. RedDog
