I have never driven a 422, but I find it difficult to believe that a single steering ram is superior to two rams. For one thing, Power Trac is not given to wasting money by slapping on parts for which there is no demonstrable need.

Dual rams also provide an equal steering response, side to side. I don't think that is the case with a single ram. Also, there is such a thing as steering that is too fast. To me, the 425's steering feels right.

I'm sure you are both right. The heavier wheel motors / shafts will last longer and take more abuse but, how long is longer? A year... 5 years? I figure by the time my motors would wear out, I could just upgrade to the heavier duty ones.

As for the dual steering being smoother due to dual rams common sence would say so, but my 180 or should I say the nieghbors 180. As I just drove it over there a few mintures ago, was glass smooth. No jerking and very effortless. It also felt just right. To be fair though, I have not driven a 425.

My guess would be the dual cylinder is stronger, but I can't imagine it being much smoother if any to steer than the single. So the single is not, a non starter in my book just based on how smooth my single was. The 425 is a really nice machine don't get me wrong but, I'm guessing the 422 is no slouch either. ;)

No No don't go...;) ;) You have contributed a heck of a lot to this forum. A lot more than I have. I think it really does come down to ones needs. If you need the extra lift, torque and a little more power than I can see why you would buy the next PT up. Some of us need a little extra for different reasons. For me it just isn't worth an extra 2000. I just needed a few more options, I was basically happy with my 180.

DUal rams are probably superior from a strength aspect, although t isn't redundant (leak in one steering ram would cause both to fail).

My point is that you don't need a "knuckle buster" steering knob on a 422 steering wheel, because you never have to turn it more then half a turn either direction. The steering is quicker on a 422.

Quick steering isn't always a good thing. Some people get in trouble with it.

Quick steering on sports car = good.
Quick steering on Power Trac = maybe not so good.

I suspect that PT just eliminated one ram and kept the same steering pump. You are probably getting twice the fluid that a PT-425 gets for the same steering input.

Just curious has any 422 owners made there own ROP'S ?? If so would be cool to see some pictures. If I decide to get a 422 this summer, I plan to just make my own. :cool:

When I ordered my PT-422 I ordered the optional ROPS from PT. I am glad I did, it has been worth every penny. I ordered the 422 because I wanted the Robin engine. I have 660 hours on it. While it is hard starting below 20 degrees it has performed well and I am satisfied.
