International Harvester 434
Hi, Just joined I Live in Lincolnshire uk. I have a International 434 tractor. I've owned the tractor for some years, thought it was about time I got round to fitting some power steering. Having read various articles about fitting power steering, I find you guy's in America and canada have so much more knowedge about tractors in general. I've asked various hydrulic suppliers in the uk about FIXED FLOW PRIORITY DIVIDER WITH PRIORITY PRESSURE RELIEF, none of them seem to understand what it's for, I've just contacted another supplier here in the uk waiting to see what they come up with. Regards Den.

Hi JJ, thanks for the reply. the hand pump is discribed in the workshop manual, located on the bottom of the steering shaft, so when turning steering wheel it allows oil to flow to divider valve, then steering ram. I was hoping to do this another way without using this so called Hand pump. I'm open to suggestion on the best way to do this. Regards Dennis.

Those priority valves should split your hyd flow and provide a set amount of fluid to the steering circuits, which is most important.

So, what you have to do is select a valve with the GPM split that you want the steering to get, and the rest of the fluid goes to the tractor hyd circuit. Also, since the pump GPM's are dictated by the tractor rpm's, the steering will always get the same GPM, where as the main hyd circuit will get what is left over.

JJ thanks for that, that all makes sence, just one other thing, do I need to have a valve on the steering wheel shaft? as my steering ram would be contected to the drag link. So when I turn the steering wheel I would hope it would push onto steering system using the priorty valves you have suggested would do the job Thanks Dennis.

JJ thanks for your help, the valve on the steering column, which at the moment I haven't got, but will try and locate one. At least I'm talking to someone who understands what I'm trying to do. Many thanks. Dennis.
