4shorts,

Your son is deserving of honor.

My father was both USMC and then USN during WWII.

One Uncle at Anzio, the other in the Pacific.

I spent some time in RVN during that unpleasantness.

My SIL is former USAF and USA.

My Nephew is now transitioning into US Army SOCOM.

Your son is one of these:

"This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother;"

Oh man. When I started to read this it reminded that freedom don't come cheap. Your mixed in with an outstanding group of people in your family sir. I passed the IPad over to my son to read your post and he replied " wow. Some nice respectful people on there" I had to agree. Thank you very much from both of us. :)

Thank you sir, and to all of the other kind replies.

To anyone reading, I have a question.

These two photos show a hose/fitting (the blue rectangle and then down inside of that skid plate "tunnel") connecting to a block set up for PB (last two photos).

My question is: what is the component/outlet/inlet that is in the tunnel that the hose is connected to?

Thank you.

That is the feed line going into the transmission then out to the 3rd function valve. That area were the line is going used to be the drain plug on my 4240 and the feed line was in another location on that. With these 5740's if you hook that guard off and that line comes down your dumping all your fluid

"...if you hook that guard off and that line comes down..."

My eyes would not be big, they would be rolling back in my head!!

Mr. Short,

Since that is/was the hydro drain plug, how do we then drain the hydro?

Do I have to dismantle all of that to do an oil change?

Yep. There will be a drain plug under each housing plus you'll have to remove that guard, line and hose to get all the oil out unless you just hook it on a rock and rip it off

You won't have to worry about the fluid change until you hit 200 hours.

Oh. My dads name was Mr. Short. My name is Paul. ;)

Very good looking tractors you got. Two at once too! How'd you pull it off because I can hardly get one at a time!

FYI: Be careful around your barn, looks like you got a couple lions roaming around:laughing:

4shorts:

"...worry about the fluid change until you hit 200 hours."

My personal standard of care ("Hello, my name is RFB, and I am a secret tractor waxer.") for for the first filter and fluid change out is at the 50 hour mark (I know that the manual specifies otherwise). I use Chevron Synthetic All-Weather THF, Mobil One Turbo Diesel Truck, and Mobil One Synthetic gear lube in the front axles.

MartianTractorMan,

Well, it was guys like 4shorts that made me drool for the 5740, and then Household Six said "me too". We had the 5030 to sell (It was in good condition and by the way, did I mention wax?) and that made it an easier hit. Overall a workable solution.

Sorry my friend. I didn't mean to make you drool

I'm about the same way as you. I even use tire dressing  I have learned a few things that I'm sticking with on this machine and that is I'm going right by the manual when it comes to maintenance. The manual says change out the fluids at 200 hours and that's what ill be doing. I changed out all the fluids on the 4240 at the first 50 hour service and it was a waste. The fluid was new and the only thing I seen was a few pieces of metal stuck on the HST filter.

Another thing I'm doing is buying my fluids and filters from my Kubota dealer that way if there's ever an issue about what brand or what quality I can say I got it from them.

When the warranty is over well that's another story. :)

Sorry. The first fluid change on the 5740 will be at 400 hours as per manual not 200.

I know this thread is old, but RFB, what size are your tires? I'm assuming 13.6-28 rears and 9.5-16's on the front? I'm looking at purchasing a new L6060 and want the biggest ag tires I can get.
Thanks!

The rear tires are Kubota OEM R1 14.9 x 26

The fronts are 11 R 16 Michelin XM27 Utility & Industrial. They have a R4 carcass and an R1 tread. They are only .5 inches larger in diameter and 1 inch greater in rolling circumference than the Kubota OEM 9.5 x 16 R1's.

The front wheels are Kubota OEM R1 16 inch wheels.

I chose this after much research, and particularly after not enjoying the "water-bed" look of regular R1's with a heavy FEL load. I wanted R1 traction and R4 stability for my duties, and these provide both. I operate them at max psi since I never drive fast.
