Not sure of your point.

Yes, individuals (including corporations) MAY consent to use GPL, but no one is in the least required to.

Further, it is up to the Purchaser to determine if they are satisfied with ALL conditions of sale. If not, it is their complete free will to terminate at any time before completion of contract.

"Caveat emptor" has been a principle of commerce for centuries.

Well, actually... Florida Vegetable Gardens - Institute for Justice to name one example. It's becoming increasingly common for cities to forbid gardens, or to fine people for not watering their lawn often enough, and yes, prohibitions on removing trees are not unknown, especially in "historic" or "preservation" districts.

point taken. I was working on the assumption that most of us live in the country or a rural environment of some sort.

at any rate, good luck to John Deere trying to me what to do on my own land, or with my own tractor.:p

I am sure John Deere, Kubota or any other brand will never dictate to you what you can or can not do to your tractor. Now they will balk and refuse to fix or repair what your damaged on their dime, regardless of how load you holler.

I think maybe you are trying to make a molehill out of a mountain, have you read the various articles? you can't even change/replace parts after the warranty expires without having them authorized by the manufacturer. you may be a fan of ever increasing costs/delays but I suspect you are in the minority.

Don't jinx yourself. Or the rest of us...

that's not particularly helpful.

Exactly. This isn't about Deere fixing it on their dime; this is about me fixing it on my dime, and Deere locking me out until I let them wet their beaks.

I would like to see the letter, book or what else is available where Deere would or will not let someone who has paid for equipment and it is no longer under warranty do his/her own repairs and replace anything on the tractor, etc they want to with what ever they want to.

Has anyone who has posted in this thread received such a letter? I never have received such a letter for a piece of farm equipment, or motor vehicle.

I dont know about Deere, but a friend who worked for a Volvo dealer said that in order for them to replace a module (not sure if this was all modules, or just select ones), they had to have the car plugged into a computer running Volvo's software with an internet connection connected to some server in Europe to get the auth code to tell the ECU that it was ok to talk to the new module.
You could install the new part, but the ECU WOULD NOT talk to the new part until it had the OK from the mothership.

You will not find one because that is not what is happening.

What is happening is that any computer related part that requires coding to work with your Serial Number/VIN can only be installed/validated/programmed by the dealer.

If you want to replace tie rod ends or brake linings, you still can. For now. IIRC I inferred from some of what I read that Deere and maybe others would like be able to say that they are only selling a license to use the tractor and that it doesn't actually belong to you. While I think it would be legal to do that, via your signature agreeing to such on a contract, they can't make it retroactive, and most people would never knowingly sign such a contract. That's why you read the fine print.
