You want to go fast, no problem, why I stay in the right lane 99% of the time. I will get in the left lane to pass a slower vehicle, usually a truck and I will kick my speed up to 2 over the limit until I get around that vehicle and then I'm back in the right lane at 65.

This is reasonable…

It’s when vehicles are doing below the speed limit in the left lane and in sync with the vehicle to the right of them when I lose my mind. If you are doing a couple over to overtake, my blood pressure stays cool even if I’d rather be doing 5 over…

At least do the speed limit in left/passing lane.

My favorite (not) one is people merging in. I always move over to let them in or slow down a bit and if I move over, they hang right next to me so I cannot get back in the slow lane.. Up here, I swear the merge sign on freeway on ramps really say stop at the end of the ramp.. I see that a lot up here. Guess driver's ed don't exist. Not like my buggy isn't fast, it is. My Focus RS Turbo 6 speed will scream if I want it to. I don't.

Around here failing the parallel parking portion of the 'driving' test is an instant fail overall. But, they don't even get on an on-ramp to a highway. In 45 years of driving I have 'had' to parallel park less than 5 times. Highway driving is nearly constant in a city.

As to going slow...we have a limited time on this mortal coil. If you want to spend more of your limited time driving in traffic, more power to you. I prefer to spend more of my time doing other things.

Isn't this the average of the automakers line of vehicles? This is perhaps why they are offering EVs... To offset these regs.

Not even sure people even have to buy them in numbers to satisfy the government. However, building cars people don't buy, will be a disaster

I think a lot of “Fast Drivers” who like to drive fast do not know or realize the increased and enhanced dangers they are facing by traveling 80 miles per hour.

At 80 miles per hour one is moving forward in a mass of metal at 117.33 feet per second. 80 miles per hour = 80 × 1.466666666675 = 117.33 or 117.333333334 feet per second.
A football field is one hundred yards or 360 feet from end zone to end zone. 360 divided by 117.33 is 3.06. So it takes 3.06 seconds to Travel the length of a football field when traveling at 80 miles per hour.

The normal drivers reaction time is 3/4 seconds. So let’s look at what the experts have to say.

Time to Stop Your Car

The table below shows the distances it takes an average car to come to a stop on dry pavement from different speeds, including the distance traveled for just one second of perception and reaction time:

Speed
Perception/Reaction Distance
Braking Distance
Overal Stopping Distance
Equal to Approx Number of Car Lengths (@15 feet)
30 mph
44 feet
45 feet
89 feet
6
40 mph
59 feet
80 feet
139 feet
9
50 mph
73 feet
125 feet
198 feet
14
60 mph
88 feet
180 feet
268 feet
18
70 mph
103 feet
245 feet
348 feet
23
80mph
117 feet
320 feet
439 feet
29

So the experts say if you are traveling 80 miles per hour on a highway and see an obstruction a football field away, you are going to hit it.

I'm well aware of reaction times from the time you comprehend the object and the time it takes for your brain to activate your foot on the brake pedal. Keep in mind that most people aren't looking ahead anyway but are doing something else like yaking on their phone or primping themselves or anything but doing wat they are supposed to be doing.

Today, driving is a serious business that a ton of people don't take seriously. Like I stated in another post, I was a safety and compliance officer the last years I was employed so I'm well aware of stopping distances and the result of inattentive driving.

That is called “Blind Spot Driving”. It is so popular that automobile manufacturers now sell an option called, “Blind Spot Indicator“. to alert us when one of the blind spot drivers is lurking and hiding in our blind spot.

My favorite of all drivers is the “I do not, never, ever pass on a two lane highway”. So you are driving down a country road and come upon a train of vehicles, following the local farmer on his tractor moving from field to field on his tractor. I have seen it get so bad the farmer would pull off on the shoulder of the road to get the idiots from being behind him.

Both my outside rear view mirrors are split. Big one is looking down the side of the car, smaller one is looking at the 'blind' spot. Real simple and real effective (if you bother to look in the morros that is).

^This.

When I lived in Pennsylvania, driving slower wasn't a problem. There was a town every few miles where I could buy what I needed. Out here in Nevada, going to "town" means Reno, 175 miles away...and other than fuel there is NOTHING you'll be able to buy in between. "Town" heading east is Salt Lake City - 360 miles. "Town" heading north is Boise, Idaho 250 miles. And "Town" heading south is Las Vegas - 500 miles.

So I ain't gonna drive 65 when I can drive 85. Especially when the roads are long and straight and you can see 15 miles ahead. Don't need extra hours sitting in my rig!

Like I said earlier, it's your dime, not mine. One thing I know for certain and that is you get terrible fuel mileage.
