The last few posts remind me of something we used to say when I was working for a company based in Germany:
"In America, 200 years is a long time. In Europe, 200 miles is a long distance."
One time I was stuck in former East Germany over a weekend, and a buddy of mine from their Stolberg office said, "hey, let's go to Czechoslovakia this weekend." I'm preparing for an all-day trip, before I find out it's a drive of less than 40 minutes.
Meanwhile, they get a kick out of us referring to any building built after the 17th century as "old".
