5w40 Syn - even if warranty calls for 10w30??

Well from as cold as (or colder) -50c(-58f) in the winter to (or hotter) +40c(104F) the benefits of syn outweigh the benefits of dino. Also, this is our main tractor now, so 150 hours will probably be the minimum we hit.

So, would it make sense to have different "weights" for Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter ?
Surely these are SEASONAL temperature swings, not daily or weekly (I hope) ?
Seems 2 oil changes a year is justifiable for >150 hours per year, though if it is 125 Summer and 25 Winter... I guess I would just stretch the schedule or the season a bit.

Yeah, seasonal swings. I will know after this winter, have 5 hours on it now, and snow blower is still sitting on the skid, probably 25 this winter. I may do that, for the cost of the oil, will be worth the peace of mind having a heavier grade in for the summer.

Well since it is not a trailer queen, and will be earning its keep, thermal break down. The hot nasty humid summers and a higher viscosity of oil are really a no brainer.

That's right, higher oil viscosity and more protection WAS actually true 70- 100 years ago.

Well, warranties are nice things to have, and engines are not cheap. I figure, for $30K+, an ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure.

Why run dino?? Syn is the only way. Have not run dino in years, and do not plan on going back.

After a little more research, found out I can run Amsoil 10w30/30. SYN.

I have never in 45 years of running engines of all kinds had an oil related failure of any kind, And I have never used syn oil.

At three times the price, it's your money.
