yep.. 75 is a 5 as well..

OK, I guess thats where I got screwed up.

Looking for a finish mower and found a Ford 930A 72".
From the photo looks to be rear discharge.

Anything wrong with these mowers? Should I bypass and look
for something else or grab it if the price is right (and what might
that be for one in good condition).

Ford made decent mowers. I've never owned one and their brush mowers are kind of light but entirely adequate for sure.
When you figure that a 6' king kutter finish mower is going to cost in the range of $13-$1400 new if you can get something for 1/3 to 1/2 of that you are in the zone.
Be glad you got a later model 2000 rather than an early one.
Ford made several improvements to them over the years.
A few things off the top of my head are, stronger square rear axles and the option of diff lock, stronger front bolster and front axle, better power steering pump and reservoir, better front pulley/seal on the front of the engine, I don't think they sold the 4 speed any more so more likely to get one with lpto and PS and i suppose a lot of folks would say the front nose, grill and smooth hood was an improvement appearance wise - at least it looked more modern. I prefer the older(pre 4/68) tin with the wrap around grill and louvered hood though and have switched to that style on both of my tractors.

In 1975, Ford changed the numbers on these tractors. The 2000 became 2600, the 3000 became 3600 and the 4000 became 4600 and so. I had a 2600 , 1979 model and it was a great tractor. The tractor is rated at about 32 engine horse power. It will run a 72 inch finish mover, but a 72 inch bush hog is a little to much in heavy stuff. I ran a 5 foot and ran good in heavy stuff.

it would have been late 75, for the 76 year model ( x600 )

probably closer to 32 pto hp.. and I've never had a problem with a 6' light or medium duty mower on that size of a machine.

a 6' hd mower is a different animal.. they can even make a larger 3 cyl light in the front.. I have a very old and very heavy servis 6' cutter that even made my 4600 light in the front before i added ballast.

no they didn't change the numbers until 1976 and it is 32 pto horse power

If you want to split hairs about it Ford started building the X600s sometime in 1975. New Holland parts says 1/75 - though those might have been considered a 76 model and might have been built in either Basildon or Antwerp for the European market.
My first 3600D was US built in Nov of 75. On another board we kind of went round and round about it as it still had the wet air filter in the nose ala the X000s and some guys insisted they had the paper filter from the get go.
I finally had to post the serial #s off of it to get any agreement on the matter.

late 75 for 76 models. that's pretty standard even with cars.. you see 2013 models after june of 2012.. :)

the model id of X600 is what denotes it as a 'year model' 76.. even if built in 75

same as a 1947 '8N' that had a year model of 1948

first jubilee ( 1953 50 yr celebration ) were built end of 52.. etc.. etc.

as for startup part difference. very common.

I have a very early 660, 55 year model.. it's gas tank and fuel line and sed bowl assy is for a NAA.. but due to the low hours and use of hte machine, I believe it was stock.. etc.

i've seen odd stuff on some of the 3 cyl jobs .. especially air filter setups..

i understand what you are saying but they wasn't sold until 1976 but the was in preduction in 75 but yes the first two or three years had the wet air cleaner

As an option. Plenty around with dry element air cleaners.

i have never seen an early model with a dry air cleaner that was orginal but i could very well be wrong just never seen one in my area
