Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

Brainstorming at its best.

Build a flat platform (plywood over the angle iron) across the rails. Then chain the mower down to it. Also If you leave the mower attached to the three point it won't roll.

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

If you'r going to go with metal and weld something up (and it sounds like you are), I'd suggest adding some "wheel pockets" to your project. Something like an open top box attached to the support rails for your wheels to set down into. Make them large enough you don't have to be overly precise when loading your tractor.

Another way to go would be to make your rails out of C channel and mount the open side up to accomodate your wheels. If you have them secured to your sides then you'd only have to secure your mower to them. The upright sections of the C would help stabilize your mower in transit, too.

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

You're only dealing with a three inch difference here. Is there a couple of inches of rail in either side you can do without? You could cut the three or four inch angle off, go with inch and a half and add quarter inch plate side panels to make up for the stiffness. I'll go out and look at my trailer. It's pipe top but it might give me some ideas. I don't think you'd have to worry about that mower flexing that much, look at the enviroment it operates under.

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

bgott,

Currently the Angle is facing out so replacing it with smaller angle will not gain any width. Also I have several vertical braces in the area that the mower will be sitting that are made of the same angle as the rails. I would prefer not to have to cut the trailer if at all possible.

But thanks for the input keep it comming!

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

Hi Brandon:

The underside of your deck has some strong steel baffling welded under it, in arches surrounding the blades. And gusseted at other points. You will have a number of contact points, all the way across under the deck. These also provide great rigidity to the deck. That and the thickness of the deck, make for a very rigid combination.

A pair of 8', 2x8s resting on top of the rails should support it just fine. You'll have an extra pair of pins, that make the floating hitch rigid that you'll probably have to use to lift it high enough. Then either adjust your toplink or remove those pins to get the deck to sit down flat on your supports. even though the deck is attached to the 3pt. I would then secure the deck with seperate straps to the trailer.

Glad to hear you finally got your new FC finish mower. Have you closed the deal on that TC45 yet?

Well good luck in all your ventures./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

Gary in Indiana ,

Now the "C" channel ides is going somewhere.....

To get it large enough to cup the wheels it would have to be pretty largewhich would translate to a lot of weight to be moving every time I load and unload.

What if I take two pieces of angle and weld some shorter pieces perpidicular to them to form a unit. then the wheels could cup in the space in between. See attached sketch.

What do you guys think?

Kodiak.

Thanks for the input... aren't the arc braces in the deck recessed?

I have not gotten the tractor yet. see the below post:

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

How about a couple of screw type trailer tongue jacks mounted to the back of the mower? Screw down to put the weight of the mower on the deck of the trailer. Screw up to mow.

Or, a simple pipe and pin set up like on cheap jack stands. Pull the pin and set the pipe (stand) down to the trailer deck to hold up the mower. You would only need two holes on the pipe. One to hold it up and one to hold it down.

I'll see if I can dummy up a picture/plan.

Re: 7\' First Choice RFM on 6\'9

Brandon:

I just ran out and tried to check, but the mower isnt mounted right now. But even if they are, a couple of peices of
2x material attached to your 2x8s in the right areas should support it. With everything under there, it makes for a very rigid deck.
