Brandon sorry to hear about your TC situation. You have my complete sympathy, but I do understand the consequences.
I agree with the the Ford 3000 series. There are a lot of them out there, that show up at auctions. And a lot of them were used just for mowing by Highway and Parks Departments, that although they usually show high hours. But they also got regular maintenance. And when your ready for your new TC45, the Ford should fetch about what you paid for it.

JimMC, what are you thought about having a GM35-84A (803 lbs) RFM resting on two 2"X8" boards running from rail to rail on a trailer. This will be transported 60 miles or so, some of which is bumpy roads, every week for 2 to 3 years until I get my house built. Since you designed the mower I think you will have some good input.

1st your right I wasn't taking into consideration the extra 200lbs between yor mower and mine. Second yes JimMC should have the proper answers, Since he , not I designed these mowers. And the more I think about it, A center support, maybe in the shape of a 12" high saw horse would probably be needed.

What do you think about this design using angle to make a setup similar to trailer ramps? Should hold the weight and would allow the mower to be supported by the wheels.
Tie it down with some staps and whala!
Any other Ideas from my fellow TBNers will be appreciated. I am sure there are other ideas out there that havn't been mentioned yet!

I agree it certainly looks sturdy, but weight is going to be the problem. Are you going to want to muscle that much weight around, two times per trip. Thats why I was thinking in terms of wood. Also some one here just mentioned that a good center support would be using the plastic milk crates, they are 12" square. Actually by lowering your gauge wheels, thus raising your deck. And setting each one on a milk crate, it should support the weight of the mower. Without the deck having to be in contact with the rails. Just as you've suggested with your heavy support.

Haven't got that far yet and don't know what the back of your mower looks like. But I think the choices are weld or build a bracket and bolt. I think two mounted inboard would handle the weight just fine.
After I posted about the pipe, I remember the discussion of receiver hitches in another thread a few weeks ago. Envision this, two of the receiver hitches mounted vertically on the rear of the mower inboard enough that they miss the side lip of the trailer.
Take two 2" square tubes that fit the receivers and weld a pad on one end of them as a foot. Drill one hole that allows them to be stowed in the full up position for mowing. One hole that extends them down far enough to hold the mower up off of the trailer lips for transport.

The C channel wouldn't have to be that big because you could turn the wheels sideways. /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif You'd only need slightly more space on the inside of the C channel than the width of your wheels. A couple pieces of angle iron as you show in your sketch would work just as well if you just spaced them properly and welded a couple pieces of flat stock between them to keep the spacing right. What about just having a custom trailer built? Just a little bigger is all you need. You're going to have this for a long time, right? Sell the old one and have someone weld up just what you need. bw

It's so much more fun to make adaptations yourself. Anyone can go buy new, but making something you already have work for a new purpose is something in which you can take some pride.
