7308 loader questions

Does the 1020 lbs lifting capacity spec include the weight of the bucket itself. If not, does your capacity go down when you use a HD bucket?-Dave

Good question, I never got an answer from my dealer on that. My HD bucket and my 48" pallet forks are both heavier than the standard bucket that comes with the 7308 loader so I am positive that I am decreasing my lifting capacity. On top of all that I have a Quick Tach adapter between my loader arms and the bucket/forks.

I have a TC25D with a 7308 loader and I wish I had more lifting capacity. With my 3pt rear finish mower hanging off the back as a counter weight, I can stall the bucket with a full load of heavy dirt, rocks, etc. The back end never leaves the ground. Maybe it has to do with the lower pump capacity of my TC25D?

The lift capacity on these tractors is very easy to adjust. Take the plastic cover of that covers the valve. Look for the half nut with a set screw in the center of it. Loosen the nut turn set screw I cant remember if it is in or out , you should only do this a half turn at a time, tighten lock nut and go see if you tractor lifts more or less if you have turned it the right way of course it will lift more. If not do just the opposite the next time. I should caution you these valves are set and pressure checked to what NH reccomends when these tractors are set up to prevent axle breakage, if for some reason you break an axle during warranty period dont expect it to be paid for by NH if this setting is not within 50-100 pounds of what is reccomended by them. So in conclusion if something does break make sure you put the settings back where they belong before you call your dealer.

Cgranat, you said that “The controls mount on the right fender and stay on the tractor when the loader is removed. It does take up space and make it a little difficult to get off the tractor on that side”. Is that with the loader on , off, or both? What I mean is, if the loader is on I can see (from pictures in my Boomer brochure) that it looks like there’s not much room between the controls and the back part of the loader itself. But, if the loader was not on, then how much room is there?

spencer200, Does this mean that the Woods higher lift capacity is not really an advantage? I would be disappointed if I could not lift a full bucket of dirt.

I have the 7308 and and getting off the right side of the tractor is not really practical whether the loader is on or off. As you noted, there's not much room between the loader control and the loader support. There's not much room between the loader control and the steering wheel, either. Although, whether someone can get off the tractor on the right side with the loader controls there is a function of how, um, large they are. I am too large to exit to the right without bumping something I shouldn't. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I asked the mechanic, when he was at my house fixing a leaking steering cylinder, about the hydraulic system. He said that the pressure relief valve is set at the factory and guards against many problems which range from blown cylinder packing, to ruptured hoses, to pump problems. Not to mention broken axles! It seems to me that messing with the valve pressure setting is more trouble than it is worth. Having said that, it appears we all are stuck with what we have.One more thing. The mechanic also said that the chatter sound you hear when you reach the pressure limit is the pressure relief valve. This valve consists of a cone shaped plunger backed by a spring which seats in an orifice. The spring tension can be adjusted to increase or decrease the force it takes to push the cone back and divert the hydraulic fluid around that circuit. I wounder if excessive wear on the cone could reduce the threshold pressure the cone breaks free. In other words, if you frequently blow the pressure relief valve and allow it to chatter, maybe the cone is getting worn.

I'm not a large person (5'4", 128 lbs) and the clearance between the 7308 control unit and loader arms is a little too tight for easy mounting/dismounting.

no woods does not have an advantage they just turn there valve pressure up in the front. You can do the same thing with a New Holland loader.

The main system relief valve is set hi enough from the factory to handle the extra loader pressure this is how other companies get away with more lifting capacities on there loaders.
