I think a stump fence looks very cool. I bet they will agree 😎.

If I had an excavator with thumb, I'd use that. You can grab two stumps and use them to rake in holes. You can also make nice, tight piles and when you figure in the time moving the backhoe from stump to stump, the excavator will be fast and with 2 or 3' bucket you can fill in a hole pretty quick.

Thanks. They touched up the paint on the back end. My wife said "she cleans up nice. Let's name her." So now we will call her 'Daisy'. I like it. It reminds me of the movie 'Hellboy' when calls his shotgun "big baby".

Did you just buy this? Looks like a Komatsu. I don't have any first hand experience with them, but have read over and over again how proud they are of their parts. I think I've heard that about every brand, but have to say that in my experience, Case has been cheaper then Napa for buying parts from the dealer.

That should be a good sized machine. I'm looking forward to your updates on how it works out for you. I would caution you not to rely on brute force to get the stumps out. Cutting the roots on the sides will make a huge difference in how easy stuff comes out, and to what degree you damage your machine. Everything breaks, but the nicer you treat it, the longer you will go between repairs.

I like the name and am jealous of the machine! Picking daisies or pushing daisies? Lol

I bought it yesterday. It gets delivered in a week. I have zero Excavator experience. But that is about to change. I did a lot of reading. I've seen good things and bad things about the model of Komatsu I bought, a PC130-6. But it is strong, and in relatively good shape and I think the guy I bought it from will provide good service. Heat and AC work. I had a contract on my timber but the lumberer didn't cut when they were supposed to so my forester brought in another smaller guy who I met with today. Walked him all over the property and he will start next week. I'll be in there to start stumping as soon as I can. I'm going to take lots of video, and pictures. and relate what I learn as a newbie. Probably start a thread just about my learning curve. I'm sure some days will be picking daisies, and some will feel like pushing. I can't wait to get going.

If your main task will be stumping, you really might want to investigate getting a ripper to replace the bucket. A ripper makes much faster work of stumps for the simple reason that it applies all the power to a 1 or 2 inch blade rather than a 24 or 36 inch bucket. A ripper also allows you to remove stumps with far less disturbance of the surrounding soil. I had a ripper fabricated for my Woods BH90x from a design I developed based on excavator rippers. Cost me about $500. I'd imagine you could get one built for an excavator for about double that which would make the work go a lot faster. Michigan Iron and Equipment built mine (and others) and they are a pleasure to work with. Ask for Bob or Tony and see what they think.
