Hoping to get some help from the combined experience of TBN members. I will be buying a trailer to tote the tractor with backhoe & FEL 50 miles at least a couple times a year.. I find if I lived down south I'd pay 1500-1900 for a new 17-18' with brakes on both axles. However I'm not getting the same numbers around my neck of the world..
Any help finding new (or used) trailer sales in connecticut or near ct. will have my gratitude:cool: thanks for your input.

If you're looking for locations that sell trailers do a Google advanced search for "trailer sales", CT, equipment. I just got over 105,000 hits. There's lots of trailer sales places in Ct. Part of the reason you're seeing higher prices in New England is sales tax impacts what the owner has invested & many trailers are built in the south so transportation to NE is a factor. MikeD74T

Tim,
I found the same thing when I was looking. From a lot of posts here you can get a pretty good deal if you live in the southern states. It seems we in the northeast have to double the prices they pay for the same trailer. I did save about $1500 by driving to PA to get my 20' x 8.5' tilt bed trailer. Still higher priced than down south but cheaper than in NY. It took me a 10 hour day, 5hrs. down and 5 hrs. back with two stops to eat. I wanted a multi purpose trailer with the extra width for hauling the occassional car or truck but if you don't need it most standard width utility trailers are 76" wide x the length you want.

Thanks for the replies guys, knew it, knew it, oh well. Was hoping for some magic I guess. Paying 2900.00 for the same trailer that costs 1500.00 in georgia don't seem very fair to me is all:(
It's not that i can't use google or yahoo just didn't like what I found;)

Well, that's the price you have to pay to get those lower taxes, lower crime rates, lower housing costs, lower insurance, uh say ... come to think of it, you don't have any of those things, do you?

Now that you mention it, it don't sound fair!

Thanks Larry, I will most likely give em a call soon. still watching trader flyers for good used.
Went to look at a trailer advertised as 16' x 8' utility, dual axle for $900.00, called the seller-was told he remembered the dot plate said 3200lb axle cap.so I thought 2 axles 6400lbs- no! axle cap. not listed individually-and not what was listed anyway, the guy "remembered wrong" had 1500lb axles ..and he'd said it's "about" 9 years old. the plate read 1984- gross cap 2998lb load cap 2200....had a 13' bed not 16'. The thing looked awful too- tires dry rotted with huge cracks,(they were 10 or 12" tires) tons of rust/rot, deck is wood thats about rotted and worn through. He's not going to have happy people unless he tells the truth before they drive up to see, especially if they come from far away:( If it was a 6500-7k 16' trailer the shape wouldn't be a deal killer-I'd spent a few hundred 3-5 and have a trailer I could use. I already have a 3k trailer so not much help to me.

Irwin:

Where in CT are you?

You may want to call Bob Wolf at Woodbury Tractor to see if he knows anyone with good deals on trailers. I will be trailering my Kubota L3130HST up to Bob soon to have him put on a Woods BH-90X for me. He gave me a good price.

I just bought a used (6 yrs old) Hudson 18' 10,000GVW trailer from a guy in NC that had it advertised it here on TBN. The trailer looks brand new and was garage kept. I paid $2200 for it and lucked out becaues I coordinated the trip to NC with a business trip to Virginia, that my company paid me for the milge.

Thanks for the advise Gary, I'll put Mr. Bob Wolf on my to call list. Sounds like you got a great deal.. :D ....Will be getting something when the deal is right. Although I want what I want when I want it, I really can wait a few weeks or more to find something good, but not premium priced. This will be used very rarely, but often enough that rental/or paying someone to haul it doesn't make good (to me) sense. Besides I hate being subject to someone elses timetable.

Finding rentals can be hard. The only rental place that would rent an equipment trailer was almost 45 minutes away (From me anyway). Finding a decent trailer at a low price is very hard. Most single axle 6x10's I have seen on eBay and local sources run just under 1k. I don't have much money, but putting my 20k baby on a cheap trailer just doesn't seem smart either. I don't have to move it much (I'm not commercial), but I think it's just cheaper to have a roll back tow truck move it when I need to.

I went through the same thing a couple years ago -- basically $1000 more for the same trailer as down south or from the other side of the Mississippi.

I ended up buying a new Hawkline from a distributor out of Ohio, just outside the manufacturer, and combined picking it up with a road trip with my 14 year old -- where I and hauled enough garden tractors and implements to pay for my gas bill...

We had a blast, essentially on a paid vacation!

Hey Irwin,

IDK how far south Uncle Henry's reaches, but there are usually some fair deals to be had out of there...

A lot of landscapers are looking to upgrade to the tilt-bed and deckover trailers that started with equipment trailers--they may be resources to check with in your area if you are willing to put the time in for it.

I got lucky when my dealer bought a tiltbed truck and sold me his 20 ft 10k for cheap... he tried to buy it back soon after, but it was indispensable by then!:D

What's Uncle Henry's ? got phone number? I don't mind traveling 4-5 hours if the deal is right..:D .. Luckily I have a repair plate that can be used to transport a trailer til it can be registered..;) as long as it's empty and i'm extra carefull it won't matter if trailer brakes won't hook up right away..
I see you're in Maine, love it up there , spent two weeks on Sugar Island on Moosehead Lake, roughing it.....water was 45'f you gotta wanna be clean!!
Also family had a cabin down in York 40-45 years ago- before it became a tourist mecca.

Irwin,
Nice find on the trailer. Now I'd weld on some HD D-rings front and back for tie down points instead of the bent bar stock that is there.
