Congrats on Employee Of The Month:laughing::laughing::laughing:

No, really its nice they recognize all your contributions.

I would pass on that trailer. Not because its not a good trailer but its just not enough for you and that new monster you got. I would get something much bigger. That trailer you had in the pic would be great behind your F-250 but just not enough to take advantage of all that F-450 has to offer.

I would look for a 102" wide deck over trailer as you never know when you will find an old tractor that looks good with dual wheels or one that are set up really wide. For 2 tractors _ would look for 25+5 dove. but thats just my opinion, there's lots of these around here and asking price is 40%more than what they will take 5k around here would get really big nice trailer. If your up for drive and have cash offer someone way to little you never know when they will take it.

on the way to lunch today I spotted a 45 gn with dual tandems (20k gvw) and fold up ramps, good tires etc.. is an 06.. has a good deck and tool box at front. guy wants 8500 obo... deck over.. so no wheels in the way.. nice looking trailer.. good paint..e tc.. but kinda longer than I was looking for, as i was kinda looking in the 29-33' range.. any opinions?

that thing even legal for me to tote with my 450?

I think I'd pass on a 45' trailer, just too long. I have a 28' dual wheel tandem with 12000# axles/24,000#GVWR. I should have bought a 32' trailer. The 28' is a handy length for pulling but it comes up a little short at times.

That 45' trailer was probably used with a 1 ton dually for hot shot work. Probably carried a high volume/low weight load. The weight of the trailer alone is a good load for a 1 ton truck. Your 450 could pull it easily.

looked at sticker on door post and says 15000 does that mean I can't get a trialer over 14k? or is that 20k I looked at still ok?

also.. got my reese 'the goose' adapter in today and snatched up that 5th wheel and dropped the gn adaper in.. looks nice... plenty of steel.. replaceable ball to.. not welded in.

Your truck has a GVW of 15,000#'s which means the truck by itself should not weigh over 15000# fully loaded. You probably have a GCWR of about 24000#'s which would be truck, trailer and load. You'd have to weigh the truck and trailer to know how much load you could carry. Your truck probably weighs about 9,000#, a 30' gooseneck will weigh about 6000#'s leaving you with a payload capacity of around 9000#'s. You'd have to check a towing guide for your model year to know exactly how much weight the truck was designed to pull. The weight ratings have increased over the years. My '08 F-450 pickup has a GCWR of 33,000#'s.

SG:
Check the towing guides on the fleet Ford website. Here's the towing guide for the 2002 Fords.

https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/rv_trailer_towing/2002/2002_default.asp

Unfortunately that website doesn't have the 1999 guide.

Trailer Life magazine has a towing guide for 1999 trucks

thanks for schoolin me guys. I'm green under the ears about this heavy towing stuff.

keep the good info coming.

anyone have any opinion on the 45' I found today? too big? I can make an offer.. looks like the owner needs to sell ..

I also say a 30' single tandems at a lot, new 09 or 10 model year.. probably 7k axles.. for 7500$

did I read the chart right? 17700 #?

that means no 20K rated trailer?

some one shower me with some good advice here :)

If the 17700 is correct, it doesn't mean that you couldn't use a 20K trailer...just that you couldn't haul max load on it. You are limited to 17700.

As for the 45' trailer, it's probably more than you need. That's a pretty long load for towing. Takes some getting used to and sometimes can limit where you can go as it can be difficult to manuver with out a lot of space.

Just because the trailer is rated at 20k doesn't mean you have to load it that heavy. 17700# would be the max weight of the trailer and load. I would buy a higher rated trailer just to have the extra margin of safety from the higher capacity. A 20k trailer would probably handle 14000#'s of payload. I wish that towing guide had shown the max GCWR (max weight of truck, trailer and load) of your truck.

Most of the dual wheel tandem goosenecks will have 10000# axles to give a 20000# GVW for the trailer. If you bought that 45' trailer you'd have room to load at least a 9N, 2N and 8N.
