A backup camera for $50!!!!!!!!!!!

   / A backup camera for $50!!!!!!!!!!! #191
I just got mine yesterday, but still trying to figure out the wires from the camera to transmitter to receiver and finally to the screen.
Instructions are useless, to say the least, I had to read the comments on Amazone to find out what the blue wire was for (backup lights on car or truck).
What is the long yellow cord for. I cant figure it out as it has two male end.
Thanks for your help.

The long cable with yellow connectors should be video extension cable, from camera output to monitor input.

Use a magnet mount for the FEL, just keep it short perhaps even no leg so as to eliminate wiggle.
Since cameras are intended to be externally mounted they are waterproof by design
As to back up lines if you scan thru the programs (one of the buttons on display) you will come to a selection that has no lines.
Mine has narrow, wide and none as options. (and I suspect they are all the same)

From what I can tell, the lines on mine are coming from the camera itself, and there isn't a way to turn them off. Would rather not have them, but for $11 I won't complain for tractor use in a rough environment.

Yes, cable with yellow ends (RCA connectors) is video. Black=gnd, red=+12V, and blue would be a signal from reverse lights, but can be ignored unless you want to get fancy.

I'd recommend taping around the video connectors to keep them snug. They just have a light friction fit, and tractor vibrations would likely shake them loose over time.

The yellow cord connects between the camera and the monitor pigtails.

I'm going to make something along the lines of waxman's loader mount. I ran across some emt conduit I'm going to use for mock up and get my angles and lengths with before making a permanent mount.

I think that properly sized heat shrink tubing, over each set of connectors, might be even better than tape?

Same with my system; the guidelines are generated by the Esky camera itself and not modifiable through the monitor settings. Esky offers both a guideline and no-guideline version.

+1 on this. Also, the included video cable is typically 19' long, to reach the rear of a motor vehicle. For my cab tractor, I instead used a 4' video cable I already had on hand. Don't know if the shorter length reduces signal loss, but it avoided having to deal with the excess cable.

I, too, chose not to use the blue wire (intended for connection to the backup-light circuit), as I find it as useful to have the camera on during forward motion as in reverse. Lets me watch the track of my implement, as well as see anything approaching from behind.

I agree, heat shrink would be best.

Can't hurt, though I do feel like electrical tape has other advantages due to the adhesive if it's a quality tape (whenever I have to undo wiring for projects, tape wraps are always a bigger PITA to remove than heat shrink).

Years ago I had some heat shrink tubing that had a heat-activated adhesive on the inside, and that would probably be the best option. It was intended for marine wiring, to make water tight connections. Good stuff!
