A couple of interesting finds on my property.

I purchased 80 acres of timbered property in Florida not long ago. Needed to open up some acreage for pasture and a site to build a new shop. Called in a logging company who got started a few weeks ago.

Friday the skidder operator stopped by when he was headed home and said that he had found a few implements in the woods and had used the skidder to bring them up and set them by the guest house. Here's what he found...

The first thing I saw an an A&B Eagle Line box blade. After some searching I can't find anything on it. Must be too old. It's a bit odd as it measures 76" form outside to outside on the end plates. It appear to be a light or medium duty version. Probably going to be too much for my YT235C but you never know. If it is I'll trade for a smaller unit.

The second thing I was pretty excited to see. A hay wagon frame. On a quick glance I think it's a Case but I could be wrong. Appears to be reasonably complete. No center pipe or tires and wheels but the hubs turn smoothly and the tongue steering is free and functions.

He said that there's also a 3-point gin pole out there but it's buried in the brush. Apparently he almost ran over it before he caught the flash of color and slammed on the brakes at the last second. He's going to drag that one out once they clear the brush and downed trees around it.

Almost like finding buried treasure for this old fart.

That's what I was expecting when he told me what he had found. I'll send photos to A & B in the morning and see what they can tell me about the box blade. Even just a weight would be good information.

I'm going to walk the skid trail in the morning and see if I can locate the gin pole.

About 10 years ago, a customer called & asked me to bush hog his property and try to get close to the trees. While mowing, I noticed something orange in the brush and stopped. It was an 8’ York Landscape rake. Pretty good condition. At the end of the day, I asked the customer about it and if he’d sell it. He said no, he still wants to use it.

Fast forward 10 years and it’s still sitting there, untouched, but now a rusted pile of crap.

My 80 acres was part of a 360 acre homestead. Given by the government in 1892. There use to be old homestead buildings - they have long ago turned to dust. All I've ever found - an unending supply of big nails and spikes. The old homesteader had a nail/spike fetish. And a couple apple boxes full of old, worn out dry cell batteries. They never had electricity here and the old batteries powered a radio he had.

Fortunately - all the nails/spikes are centered just around the old building site.

I heard back from A & B this morning.

“That is our 6-½ ft wide BLC box. It is a medium duty box and we made them 10-15 years ago.”

I responded back and asked them if they could provide a weight on it but nothing yet.

So far all I have found is tires and debris that people dumped. The property is part of a much larger piece owned by a mining interest. It was effectively unoccupied and treated as a cheap dump on occasion. Not too bad though. We looked at one property that had at least a full acre of couches, tvs, and various waste dumped by lazy or cheap people. Property owner was unwilling to pay for cleanup or cut price (it was not low priced already, either)

Nice find. If you cannot use it, you can clean it up and sell it.

I paid too much for adjoining land a few years ago. I'm happy I bought it now, but an abandoned van filled with junk & a big trash pile I burned then planted annual Rye.
Another mass of weeds I went in with my Cub Zero turn mower and "found" lots of old barbed wire & scrap which destroyed my deck.
I had to reweld deck, straighten, beat dents out, replace spindles, etc. Paint it.

Strangest thing Ive found was 2 basketballs in the middle of my wooded area. I guess Bigfoots were playing the Aliens. HAHA
