What I meant was, we don't have a mortgage payment. Payed that off in 1996. ;) Yet we keep getting these calls.

Yes - they phone blast all the numbers they have hoping some will stick.

For warranties, mortgages, and a whole lot if other stuff.

If someone bites, the call center signs you up and contacts the real seller and gets a finders fee.

I had one the other day offering to reduce my credit card interest to zero, from a supposedly American company. Remember, I am a Canadian. She asked if I was interested, I said not really. End of call.

This thread has me wishing I would get a call from one of these people, just so I can mess with them.

A young friend of mine got one of these calls and he was in a panic trying to find a local store so he could go buy a debit card quickly.

I took the phone from him and began telling the woman on the call that I wanted to pay the debt, but did not have any cash, however I have a superior male anatomy, and that I could give her so much physical pleasure that she would certainly forgive the debt. CLICK.....

I got a call in the early hours and I started asking if he was $%$ retarded. When he tried to speak I just repeated my question several times. Then he kept calling back saying he wasn't going to let me sleep, laughing at me. He called the next day too, but only once, I recall.

I just love messing with them. Today cell rings while I'm "riding the bus", credit card scam. Wait I say, Indian waits, I'm making noises..."Timmy...get pa-pa's credit card."
Scammer waits while listening to my "music". Finally "I know it's bad in here Timmy, turn on the fan & spray". (I'm trying not to laugh...idiot's still waiting). Ok...I make up 16 numbers, Visa starts with 4.
Then "hold on"...(more noises).
I ask him if he ever had a really bad burrito.
"Number doesn't match" Indian says.
"Timmy...get my glasses."
Finally the scammer screams, cusses and hangs up.

Had one today on the daughter in laws' phone. Dam she let it go to voice mail. I would have loved to screw with them.

The other side of that coin... I've had a yahoo mail account for 20+ years. Lately they've been trying to get me to register my passwords with them so that I will "Never worry about forgetting a password again."
Let me get this straight... you want me to give you passwords to all of my bank and other accounts? Thanks but no thanks.

Reminds me of a Saturday Night Live skit back when the first Gulf War began.

The Pentagon general was giving an update and when done asked for questions from reporters.

A guy dressed up in Arab garb asked - “Can you tell us how many soldiers you have and exactly where they are located”?

I do find a password program to be quite useful, but I wouldn't want to store the data on-line. I use Password Safe to store all my passwords locally. Password Safe

The problem is that "good" passwords should be reasonably complex, you should not use the same password for multiple accounts, and you should periodically change them. I find it impossible to do all these things AND remember them.

I write them down. If somebody breaks into my house they will be lucky to find them, as most of the time I can't remember where I stashed them. I use them as a memory excercise, and log into each account often enough to check for unwarranted actions; and so that I don't forget my password. It backfired on me this week though... I pay my CCs online and was two days late because I couldn't log into my account. The minumum payment was $10.00, total balance-which I paid- was $13.50, yet it was late; something I haven't done in 20 years. :(
